Steering head bearing removal
the inner race is stuck in the head tube and there is a metal spacer keeping me from getting under the lip of the race. Any ideas on how to remove?

Contact Jellis, or use a sawsall and insert the blade all the way through the middle and make a cut as much as needed to cut the outer race of the
bearing.

Put a punch in there and drive the spacer tube over some. Then drive out the bearing from the opposite side. I wouldn't reuse them once removed.

It's a hardcore, it won't punch out. I used a torch to melt it out and then cut a groove in the center to allow a sharp punch to drive out the
opposite side when the second set needs to be replaced.
I also added a zert fitting to grease the new bearings, they are still good.

I'd like to see a picture of this setup. Sounds like some sort of bearing puller is needed?

The part was custom made by the previous dealer. That part is no longer produced. The problem is the center sleeve is a greater thickness down the
outside race of the bearings. So the inside raise and bearings, rollers, can be removed but not the outside race. So a bearing puller will not work.
The only solution is to modify the inside sleeve.

If the inner race and its ball bearings are already removed it's a very simple fix.
Take a welder and run a bead around the face inside of the bearing where the balls/rollers run and when it's cool it will simply fall out of it's
housing.
The weld will shrink the bearing enough to be a very loose fit.
Even bearings that cant be dismantled can be shrunk out by removing the seal and just blazing away through all the crud with a welder.

I don't know about small bearings, but if you do that to a large bearing it will explode like a grenade. We have to carbon gouge them in two , quickly
before they shatter. Reason.... They expand first before shrinking and they are hardened so they don't flex, they shatter explosively. You have been
warned.
