Kite size related to power

I was wondering if a 5m kite would perform tamed in 4 to 10 mph winds? I know it would move slow but can learning to fly one in those speed benefit?

It would be very tame, but you would still be able to scud a bit in that speed. Learning to fly in sub 10 mph winds is a great thing to learn because it means that you will actually struggle a lot to keep it in the air. If you are a beginner, that is valuable info.

Is the 5m a beginner kite or a race kite? Could be a gentle giant or a wild animal.

It's the ozone flow 5.0. I was seeing that their chart showed that it could be flown in that range.

If I'm not mistaken the Flow is a low/mid aspect kite. If so ,then that range will be fine. However it is not fast or for jumping. Which means it is rather tame . It is a beginner kite and can be flown on handles as well as a 4 line bar, NOT a DE-power bar. It is in the same group as Flexi rages,HQ beamers. And remember ,even a beginner kite can hurt ya.:o

All good advice above. Those wind ranges would be perfect to learn on with that kite. The Flow is an excellent kite and is very robust. You may want to be a bit cautious when the winds start to peak around 10ish though.

Yeah I notice the chart showed 4 to 10 beginner and 10 to 15 intermediate and then 15 to 20 advance and 20 up powered pro with a warning at 31mph.

Welcome,

You have a pretty good kite to learn on if not a bit big. It sounds like your common sense and 2 line experience will help you along.

Like the chart indicates, you will be able to fly the 5m into higher winds as you progress. Play it safe and go back to your 1.8m if you feel overpowered.

Don't even think about jumping until you can fly the kite blind. You need to be able to spot your landing while redirecting the kite to jump. 5m is actually not the ideal size of kite to learn jumping on. It will lift you in strong winds, no problem. It is too small a canopy to float you and you will drop like a rock if you don't get your timing perfect. FAR BETTER to learn to jump in lighter winds with a bigger kite!

You probably don't need to worry about NAPKA membership right now. It is only required to attend events that are insured by the NAPKA policy. El Mirage has a separate fee. If you want to ride at Ivanpah I think you need to register with the BLM ? That may have changed? As you know there are lots of dry lakes near you. I think most are unrestricted?

Not sure yet on the dry Lake policies but the closest area that us clear for even attempting a race would be near carrizo planes I think that's what it's called, but not sure if I'm allowed there but there is open oil field areas.

There is a salt lake up there but no idea how safe or if it's allowed there.

I'm 315lbs. I put my 5m away at about 15-18...I've had it out when the wind picked up to about 18-20. Abkayak is right. At 20+ Your gonna need a fresh pair of shorts. I would recommend keeping it under 10. Remember kites have teeth and anything with teeth can and will bite you!

So, im light weight then even though im 180 wow thats amazing. Well that kite is comming in on thursday and according to my app it says ill have winds at about 7 or 6. If it looks not too bad I might take it out to try out I been watching a guy from the UK that uses 2 bar system and it seems simple enough its like a system of levers with pulling one way or the other closer or farther from you to make it go that dirrection. Seem like fun but im sure it will take me no time to get use to it since I do have a 1.3 2 line that also uses handles instead of a bar so was pretty good at flying it around when it got windy I added a tail to it to make it look nicer when spinning.

Yeah, I remmber the first time I packed up my 1.8M kite I was like its suppose to fit but its sticking out and so I had to fold the vents down and then role it and all I did was just role it up.

Its not a parakeet Its a Sun conure I have a Sun Conure and a Jenday Conure. One is 5years old and she follows me almost every where and in some stores she is really good but hates being touched.

The other one is the same color but more green and she loves to be with new people more than the other one but I dont take her to places since she tends to not behave as good.

I usually take them out walking or when Im flying the kite ill take the yellow one out with me if I have my brother helping me with the launch of the kite if im doing it solo she usually stays at home since she is afraid of the kite.

my Pop got me a mitrid conure as a teen...the bird hated me for years...only liked girls so had to get her/him? a better home

Well so far theres been enough wind for the 1.8M kite 4 days in a row but only 2 days where the winds at 16MPh which is more decent for it.

Well my Sun conure likes certain women since I got her from a lady that had a baby and I now know she hates babys and kids since when I take her to a park she screams or hides from kids. She will sometimes randomly fly to a guy or a girl and at first when she did it I figured it was cause the lady looked like her previous owner but no that wasnt the case what happen was the lady was afraid of birds and some how she knew that if she landed on her she wouldnt be touched since she hates to be touched and people that have fobias usually stay still till their fobia goes away so yeah she is a fobia detecter cause it has happen 2 times. Then one time I took her to Home Depo and I was picking wood and she flew to some random guy that was passing by so I had to call her back but no idea why she flew to him it was random.

Yes she can fly outside except she loves trees and can take up to 30 mins to get her down if she really likes it since she will try to make a nest up top but her skills for nest making suck so after 30 mins she gives up. I use a wistle usually to recall them but lately they just been screaming so I have to follow their scream if they dont fly back but havent lost them yet and been doing it for about a year and a half now decided to take the chance.
