Kite Acrobatic - Ouch!

A couple nasty little spills. I would think he would be getting more float from a PL Twister 5.5m in 15-20k wind? Is he just not stearing his kite properly in the window?

so a paraglider using a 22m for normal jumping off a mountain is too big? sorry this is one of those "I should keep my mouth shut" moments.

just a pet peeve of mine to the get some air from a little kite. its a kite not a parachute. its not designed to get air, just the opposite.
would 30 feet of air with a 2.9m be better? I think the 30 foot fall on your right shoulder as your chest rips in half and collapse your left lung would be the highlight of the day. just reminiscing.......

There is no such thing as float under a 5m kite.

You are correct that he is going about it all wrong. The only way to avoid dropping like that is to redirect the kite and keep it moving fast. Or a running pendulum jump with redirect. Skills that very few of us have.

Don't worry Jeff can get grumpy but always has our best interest at heart.

Here is one of our own. pongnut. Keep in mind he is very skilled and it's still taking a calculated high risk. But it gives you an idea of what a jump should look like.

First WELCOME to PKF. FWIW, there's no insult to the question.. It's more along the lines of, jumping is not the smart place to start and minimum kite size is at least 5M. The main concern here is we want everyone to enjoy the power kiting safely. We get individuals that join to ask about jumping because it looks cool. They invariably put up videos to someone getting hurt by DOING IT WRONG or worse getting trashed even though they did it right which only can serve to hurt power kiting in general.

Don't get me wrong, there's absolutely nothing wrong with gaining the expert level of ability needed to jump with some margin of safety BUT, as a new member to the PKF community, please take a few minutes and consider the overall impact to power kiting.. We want the beaches and the parks to stay open to our flying,, Showing some poor guy getting dragged around only gives those who want to restrict our sport extra ammunition to do so. It's not personal. We do have a section of the forums dedicated to jumping and if that's your main interest, I'd like to direct you there where some of the EXPERTS can pass on their wisdom.

By the same token, for most of us the wisdom in jumping is NOT jumping. The kite skills it takes to safely jump are exponentially far beyond the skills it takes to get airborne in the first place.. One would need to learn everything about the loft of the kite, redirection to keep the kite from dumping you and how to land without inspecting the inside of your femur. Most of us would prefer not to have the 10 seconds of fame on TrueTV. It doesn't take a parachute to sky dive.. It does however require one to sky dive twice.

HQ Crossfire II 2.0, 3.0 & 4.0
HQ Toxic 8.0

Before you ask, What kite Should I buy?

I think I figured it out.

If you really want to jump with kites, I mean really jump, do it over water.
Much more forgiving on the landing.

:D

Always on the steep part of the learning curve.
Gin Shaman2 6m, 12m
Flysurfer Peak1 6m, Peak2 9m,Peak4, 3m
Misc. other kites, never getting out of their bags.
Riding a Libre Fullrace with an AQR on the beach
Riding a Blokart inland when gust factor > 4
And a couple Manta Singles for friends to ride.
