game camera (off topic)

I bought a game camera a few month ago to prove to the skeptics about some of the stuff I see in the yard, here are 2 that is a bit unsettling as far as Levi is concerned. these guys are on the driveway 20 feet from the window of the living room.
For the record, I live in town as do the animals.

Jeff, those look like hungry critters. I was surprised to see the big cat in a daytime shot (8p according to the time stamp). We get sightings from time to time of mountain lions around Park City, UT as well. One was killed by wildlife management folks about five miles from our house a couple of months ago after it killed and ate a couple of dogs let free to go out and pee at night.

It's just a little kitty and a yodeler. :P just make sure your dogs are bigger than the coyote and you're laughing.
Seriously though, big dogs are wonderful things. We've had a pair of Great Pyrenees (well at least 2 at a time) on the yard at all times for the last 20 years or so. Before that there were some issues with lost poultry. And lambs. And calves....
Living in the country is spectacular, but there are some drawbacks. Lots of people around here are starting to worry as the wolves are starting to move south, used to be lots 4 hours north. Now more like 1 hour north with quite a few sitings in the area. My thoughts are watch your kids and deal with it. And get bigger dogs. :)

Judging by coloring and length of tail, kitty appears to be a bobcat....

FWIW: The last image is of a bobcat that has been tranq'ed.... most likely for tagging and tracking purposes.

Last night I was changing the sd card in the camera and watched the bobcat walk down the driveway. As soon as it saw me it ran off. Scared the crap out of me. Upon looking at the sd card I found only a few minutes earlier the bobcat walked by in the same direction. Upon looking at the other pics of the bobcat I noticed they are different colors. One is darker than the other and about 4 inches taller. I talked to the local game officer for the city and he said there's a family just up the hill from here. He said they had 3 kids this spring. Kinda scary and cool at the same time. They eat the wild rabbits that are over running the area.

Yummy rabbit. My dog just ate the remains of a dead rabbit a couple of days ago. If she could speak she'd surely endorse your bobcat family's menu choices.

Agreed, both cool and a little nerve wracking at the same time.

Same here, one of my dogs loves rabbit. She can rarely if ever catch an adult, but we usually have a rabbits nest or 2 in the yard every spring and she plucks the babies out of the holes and eats them whole.

A neighbor of mine was out for a nice little walk in the woods the other day, and something odd caught his eye up in a tree. It turned out to have been a deer carcass. It was not a very large deer he said, but a deer nonetheless. Although I have not seen the cougar that was no doubt responsible for this act, I have seen its prints in the area, and if there is one...

Here in CT, we have had a real resurgence of until recently, fairly rare animals. I personally have seen bobcat, black bear, lots of wild turkey and lots of coyotes, and most interesting to me, what are being called 'coywolves'. These things are like ghosts really, as they are very private and stealthy if they need to be. I was fascinated about a year ago by a Netflicks documentary called 'Meet the Coywolf', and then I spotted a group of them late one evening enjoying a bit of roadkill along the edge of a back road. As soon as they spotted my car, they were gone. I've seen them many times since in this same area late at night, and they seem to be becoming a little less timid around cars.

If interested, I just saw that this documentary is still on Netflicks, and it is also on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=andMu4oVgyw

Out in the woods I see the same stuff, bear, coyotes, deer, racoon, possum, and the like. But in the garbage can and walking close enough to the front door to spit on them? Sorry, makes my neck hair stand up. I have to look out the window before going out the door and I carry Levi out with me to a fenced area so he can do his business.
Never thought I would have to hide from the Law and the wild animals.:shocked2::D

Speaking of dogs and bunnies...

My 8 yo daughter found a nest in our yard this spring with a couple of baby bunnies and started to love on them and pet them (and referred to them as her "pet bunnies"), until a day later when they "disappeared"... Which is to say my wife found our dog eating on one of them and had to dispose of the carcass before our daughter found it. Needless to say, the nest was then empty. We found the other that afternoon in the middle of the road (mangled street pizza) which I assume a neighborhood cat dragged out there.

Not sure about that. Most cats would have eaten what they could and hauled the rest off to a whatever cool spot he/she is using as a larder and bury it. To this day, if he is feed anywhere near a rug, Beau will try to cover whatever food he can't finished with it.

Just as likely bunny wandered or got chased out into the street.

Braveheart has killed one young rabbit this year to my knowledge (only because he felt the need to bring it onto the patio and eat it next to the feeding station where he usually eats kibble). In the end, there was hardly any fur left behind and one small internal organ the size of a kidney been. Most of what cats kill in your yard, a CSI crew would have a hard time finding.

ATB,
Sam
