Single Line Kites

I realize this is a power kite forum, but how many of you guys throw single line kites in the air when you're out?
I purchased a 6ft delta hybrid box kite two weeks ago. Threw some cheap ribbon tails on it and forgot how much fun setting an anchor and watch something fly was. Really enjoyed it. After awhile, I pulled half of the line down and attached my nephews $3 Walmart spiderman diamond kite with a larks head knot and watched it fly 10xs higher than it normally would off of my main flying line.

The single line helped when flying my 3m on the beach as well to get a sense for the shifting winds and where it was going.

I'd love to see what/if you guys have, pics are cool too!

I'd really like to find a couple more unique and/or large size single line kites. Anybody have some suggestions?

Yes there are a few of us that will fly any kind of kite. I'm generally flying my single liners and line laundry when it's a lighter wind at the beach or sometimes I'll head to a park not far from my home to throw a kite show late afternoon on a light wind eve.
Last weekend I was at a beach with a group of friends and it was a very light breeze coming off Lake Huron but amazingly steady so I put up a number of my own design single liners and ones that I've received from friends as kite exchanges and the different line laundry inflatables. I put a mix of a dozen or so things that were just parked side by side for the afternoon - really an amazing light wind. At the end of the day I had numerous people walk by and thank me for putting on the show during the day.
I'm not sure if Kittyhawk Kites would be the closest to you for a selection of kites and then getting into a variety of bigger lifters and show kites thee is always Gomberg Kite Productions.
The are a number here that also dabble in KAP (kite aerial photography)
I'll dig up some kite photos for you
Mark

edit: added a few photos. The paintbrush I made is based on a modified rokkaku. It's around 20 feet long including the tail. The paint can that hangs on the line is 6 feet in diameter. The native artwork kite is 9 feet tall. I have many kites and banners etc that i've made but i have way more photos I've taken of other peoples kites

Soliver- Love that kite. Very cool, would be a perfect addition to a small single line beach quiver.

Mark - Would love to see some of the stuff you have. I'm actually of the same mindset as you. Head somewhere, and throw 5-8 kites in the air and watch them dance. Awesome show. Can't wait to see the pics.
Also see below, I dabble in a little KAP as well. (first ever attempt)

Jeff - I load mine on photobucket, then copy and paste the links.

Me this past Thursday after a DC trip (always go to the mall on my way home from work trips)

I too confess, but I have an excuse. Over the summer as the wind drops it seemed to me that flying traction kites probably wasn't going to get me anywhere so I thought maybe if I built some single line kites I could fly them in the feeble summer winds. So I've tried a bunch of different designs and came up with a few on my own. My favorites include the Pocket Sled and Panflute. I also tried KAP using a very large Panflute I built. I build a sort of "closed cell" parafoil - the Miniscoop. I've got videos on my youtube page for most of them.

The most complicated one I've built was a prototype Pacman kite (made from my ugly blue tarp) which I eventually got to fly. I may build a proper yellow one, one of these days.

Check out the section on sports, stunts and single liners here: ExtremeKites single liners

In particular, the Trilobites (china) are great looking kites that fly well and can double as lifters. Robert Brasington makes some amazing designs and check out the thread on Awesome Cody Variants. I'm a big fan of the Cody Box kite - there's a ripper available from HQ kites. There's a video on XK in that section. I've got a HQ Kapfoil that I use as a lifter for a large spinner and an HQ 2m foil and an Ultrafoil 15 that I use for KAP. If you put a gimbal on it you can get some pretty stable video footage too....

Just picked this one up today. Also got a spooled winder with 1,000 ft of line. Which I'll probably cut in half to get 2 500ft lines out of it. I will probably get the kite to 1,000 feet once just to see it go that high, but after that, it's kind of impractical.

Looks like we are not the only ones flying single line kites. Navy is now getting into the act.:
