Just wondering what the surface is like anyone been out there lately? would you say its smoother or better than last year.
Has it been a dry spring?

intruder.

Yep.
Go out there most every weekend.
No rain to speak of this winter.
Middle of the lake bed is very smooth.
Good as...? Better...?
Depends on what you thought of the surface last year.
The large oval is an evaporation pond.
It's fenced off.
None of this matters.
Forecast hot and dry for the next week or so.
Then a chance of precip during the last week of March.
NOTE: Weather forecasters out here are OFTEN wrong.
The catch is that the landsailers are out on the playa the week before us.
They chew up the surface a little bit.
If it does get wet, it screws them.
The Sierra Nevada mountains stop most all the precip coming this way.
This hot weather we have right now (temps this week in the 80's)...
Also includes nearly no wind.
So there.
I hate good weather just before an event.
Good weather never lasts.
I love bad weather just before an event.
Bad weather never lasts.
Come what may...
There's only one place to be...
I'll be there.
Maybe bring a friend.

The weather is what it is who cares, its the surface that has us travelling from the 4 corners of the earth last year it had some rough spots closer
to primm and some smoother spots up near the evaporation pond, was the pond there last year?
thanks

Thar's GOLD in them thar hills!
Looks like the evaporation pond has been there at least since 1995 and was build to dispose of radioactive waste from mining operations.
I guess that explains the hair loss of long time sbbb/nabx attendees! :singing:
By the way, here's a link to Ivanpah, the ghost -gold mining- town.
