Greetings Gentlemen,

So, on behalf of the snowkite season and good cheer, I figured we need a thread where people can share a couple words on their first session of the year. Lets keep the stoke alive!




On that note, I had my first snowkite day today - woop-woop! Was only able to get out for about 90 minutes, snow was marginal, winds were really light but Zeek pulled me through. Sunrise was amazing though and felt sooooooooo good to be out again. Love this time of year.

Way to go Nate!! Happy for ya bud. The Wasatch got this same snowfall and a sharp drop in temps. I can see the slopes of Park City and Deer Valley from my house and the snow guns have been going non-stop today.

I'm going to wait this year to snowkite until the snow is deep enough to go to my big places around town. This means about a two foot standing base. With luck we're talking mid-December. I'll circle back and stoke up this thread as soon as the snow gods cooperate.

Got a long wait here in Northeast. I do miss the lake ice and snow, but at least got the beach

Check again Chris... sunrise! I bring this up only because it makes this first session of his so infinitely better and way, way cooler. Good on ya Nate. Representing the tribe!

Awesome Nate! You mountain guys sure get a nice long season:D Think I'll move west. We're still at least a month away from any kind of skiable ice. Come on cold!

Cheddar, don't pack your bags quite yet: It's supposed to be back in the 50's by tomorrow. Typical CO weather: gotta strike while the iron's hot.

Chis, I know - winter sunrise/sunsets never get old. Such a great time to be out. Hopefully you guys get a better winter this year; I know we're off to a bit of a late/warm start. Looks like someone shipped all our snow to France. Bastards.

skimtwashington - that spot is actually a big soccer/lacrosse field near the Air Force Academy. Its nice for days with marginal snow b/c there are no rocks and it doesn't take much to cover it. Wind tends to be a horrible jumbled mess there though.

Steve - two feet! That's crazy talk. You're gonna have a pretty epic 1st post, that's for sure. Looking forward to it.

That would be epic! What I meant was a two foot BASE. That's the amount of standing we need around here to cover up all the ground features like sagebrush, tall grasses, etc.

The sagebrush is tricky because it can be covered but lurk just below the surface. Drive your ski tip into a nice big sagebrush bush and it may not come out!

Our snowkiting season is well underway at Sunshine Meadows in the high alpine west of Banff but they had to cancel the first World Cup men's races of the season at Lake Louise due to lack of snow.

I hope Prussik will let us know when LDA is good to go. I have been waiting to change to studded tires on the buggy due to a warm November so far.

We got over a foot of snow this weekend in some of the hills around here. Unfortunately the only real open areas are on lakes, and those aren't frozen yet

Canuck - I totally forgot you had already started a thread - man you beat the rest of us by like a whole month. Banff/Lake Louise is such a pretty area - would love to see more pics of where you're riding at up there. I grew up in NW Montana (Whitefish), so not too far from where you're at.

The Upper Peninsula. I have a house on Indian Lake, probably about as good a winter kiting spot as it gets around here.

I feel your pain. Not many land based options around Green Bay either. Once the lakes freeze then it becomes almost limitless :D

Same here, they don't cal Maine "The Pine Tree State" for nothing.
