HQ Apex III 5m

Hey Wind chasers, just got me a 6M Phantom so I do not need my HQ Apex III 5m. The kite has been flown maybe 8 times bought it brand new so only one owner comes ready to fly buyer would have to pay for shipping asking $350. Hopefully this short link of my nephew flying it(about 4 weeks ago) will load.

He wanted to try and jump

:o So many words to try to keep polite...

Would someone from the Gulf area please take away his kites until he promises to not do that again.

or...

Hey Yoda, please take your new Phantom low through the wind window and try to jump when it's low in front of you. Then re-watch (and listen to) your video.

OK. Nice words:
1) I'm glad your nephew is OK.
2) Buy a helmet.

Go ahead... tell me to "go fly a kite!" Please!

I know what y'all are thinking but :
1. I have told him to wear helmet he think he is to tough football player
2. I tell him how to do a jump properly and he thinks he knows better that is why you hear me saying jump I just wish the audio picked up what he was saying. I am just saying jump not telling him to jump what he is saying is watch this jump. and at the end when I say quit going forward is because he saying he is strong enough that the kite can not pull him forward

Me I wear my helmet and knee pads. This was just the only video I had of the Apex III 5m. he only flew it for that minute to show him the kite had power then I put him on my Trainer kite. if I knew I was going to get bashed I would not have posted it

Sorry, no one is "bashing" here. They are politely calling it as they see it and rightfully so. They do it out of concern. His being a "tough football player" doesn't fly. He wouldn't take the field without his helmet right? That kite can hand him a bigger smack down than he would see from taking a hit in a game. As soon as you allow people to fly your kite, you are responsible. His coach wouldn't let him take to the field w/o his helmet right?

If you do not take measures to ensure kiter safety (properly equip and instruct) and they get hurt, it's on the person who owns the kite. It's your responsibility to MAKE him wear a helmet and if he refuses, tough luck kid you aren't flying today. It's also your responsibility to make sure he is familiar with the safety systems and knows how to use them.

The video illustrates one of two things. Either a lack of knowledge about what a kite can do or a lack of respect for what a kite can do. This is the exact type of scenario that can quickly escalate, get someone injured, get an area shut down to kite access and put kiting into a bad light in general which hurts all of us. There were a number of people watching.

Fortunately the kid is a BRUISER :D and was oversheeting the kite, keeping it from building enough airspeed to power up. Please put all our minds at ease an put a bucket on that kid's melon next time.

the bare feet bother me the most..and no jumping w/ a kite that small, particularly someone that big

+ a 5m apex is gonna produce way more power than a 6m phanny
i think its apples to oranges w/ these 2 kites....please correct me if I'm wrong folks

***disclaimer***
yes I admit I may just be trying to position myself for a possible 6m phantom purchase

He'll be in for a surprise the day it's windy enough and he zings the kite just right and it takes him 20+ feet up. I always tell people here if you want to jump; you need to be sure you can deal with having a broken bone for a while and your job will be okay with it. Jumping and breaking stuff is just part of it. Just give it time and do it enough. It will inevitably happen.

I am not sure what is more odd. That you let this kid fly with no shoes or helmet or anything in between for protection or that you are surprised we mentioned it. I purposely didn't point out the mistakes thinking you would be upset.

Jumping isn't something that should be encouraged until the pilot can fly the kite blind and not with a 5m low lift kite! You need to be spotting your landing at the same time as redirecting the kite to float you out. If there had been any power in the kite ( enough to jump ) Your nephew was asking to be pile driven into the turf the way he went about it.

You ( and your home insurance ) (( I sure hope you have liability insurance )) represent the whole kiting community. Those folks who were watching can't have a very good opinion of us and our safety ethics after watching that. It only takes 1 passer by to complain for the whole community to be left with the results. Believe me, it has happened to us locally!

You may want to wait and see how you like that 6m Phantom. It won't produce usable power until much higher winds than the 5m you are selling. Most folks find little to no use for the 6m it needs that much wind. You will NEED wind well into the 20mph range before it will even perk up. It is too small a kite to jump safely with. Definitely the wrong kite to learn how to jump.

Please don't be offended by us and our interest in safety. We are out for what is best for you and the community. We need to take it personally having lost way too many locations to unsafe pilots not using common sense.
