Quick advice for a newbie - beamer/alpha

Hi guys,

Total newbie here, flown a mates Beamer 4m (old one I think) and really enjoyed it. Paid 40 quid for a kite off eBay and it didn't fly 😂 SO!

Taking the plunge to go for one properly.

Staying in HQ territory, looking at either the Alpha 3.5 or Beamer 3.
What's the difference? On paper the stats are the same (if not the Alpha coming in slightly larger). But significantly cheaper - so what would you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

I have them both. But I can only speak of using them to buggy with. Both excellent kites. The Beamer is a proper handling kite with good manners and will take a buggy to 30+mph. The 3.5 Alpha really shines at the upper end of its wind range. Great kite for gusty conditions.

If the kite is only going to be used for static flying; consider the price and which one you want to look at up in the sky.

Either one; you will never outgrow them; you will just be able to fly them in higher and higher winds.

Thanks for your reply, yes at the moment I'm only going to be static flying. Someone I spoke to before mentioned that the pull feels different between the 2 kites? If this is true then how so? I love the power behind the beamer, so wondered how it was for the alpha. Thanks :)

totally guessing here, but I would assume the alpha has a lower ar thus making it travel a bit slower though the wind window. I would go for the beamer if I had to pick between the 2.

I have both. The Alpha is the kite I let my kids and wife fly. It's the kite I break out anytime someone wants to give power kites a try. The Beamer is MINE! It will forever remain in my quiver. You decide.

The Alpha is essentially a Beamer II from years gone by. As the Beamer matured and got more sophisticated with more features (and cost) I think they brought out the Alpha as way to offer a lower price point for a similar kite. Go with the Beamer if you have the funds.
