Holy Crap - Etape SR71
Someone in France looks like they are gearing up for a run at the buggy speed record.
The are building a long wheelbase low slung buggy called the Etape SR71. From the pictures some of the buggy highlights include:
Adjustable camber rear wheels
Front suspension(?)
Rear rollbar
Monococque fairing
5 point seat harness
Oh.... and a drag chute to slow the buggy down at the end of a speed run. The chute is in the cylinder behind the head rest. Identified as such
in the schematics that are posted among the 40+ other pictures recently posted. :o
Since I realize not everyone is on FB, here's a quick "contact sheet" of 3 interesting pics. Click on the image to open up a fullsize version in
another tab/window.

Sam

I believe that's some whimsical humor and that part isn't present when the buggy is in use.
The words "No Step" is stenciled onto certain part of aircraft wings which aren't meant to be used as a "wing walk". In their visual analogy, that
area of the axle roughly corresponds to the wing area of an SR-71 (and the cambered wheels correspond to the angled rudders on the plane).

Nonsense Sam! Anyone can see that the cylinder behind the head rest is a rocket engine. The NO STEP cylinder is its fuel tank.

Those pictures of him upside down look scary as hell. Whats the surface he hopes to ride on ? I'm thinking if its sand, then that roll-bar will dig in
an inch or two and not allow room for his head.
Looks great though! :D

maybe Les Hemmes? It's a French builder but I can't tell where he lives. Looking at his F.B page he also has this Mad Max rat rod buggy

I wonder if that is the same builder as the hubless steam punk kite buggy?

Oddly what I interpreted it as was a low speed drive system akin to a trolling motor.

eric35 - are these yours? Fantastic job, love all your builds and your AQR. Really nice finishing touches with the "No Step" and little skulls etc...
You put a lot of time and energy into usable art pieces. Hope you have some ideas for more!
