Wow, how big are those kites? They don't look to be over 7-10m, but the float is incredible! And it didn't look like they are even working hard to develop the lift. Is there anything else out there with float like that?

Nice! I'd like to se a less curvy paint job from them though. Thats my only gripe. The Kite itself is next generation and looks a treat to fly.

Havent seen this thread in awhile--your welcome Gulf! BBob, the kites in the vid are the 12 and 14m Hybrid Ultra Core (red kite is the 12/orange the 14). DaVinch has the newer X Air model which is not available in 14m (the X Air series grunt is 2 sizes larger than the actual kite size). The 8 pulls/lifts like a 10, the 10 and 12, etc so the need for a 14m X Air wasnt needed. The kites lift and float very well combined with the updraft off the mountains actually have the kites making altitude, very impressive. There is a vid out there with one of the Evo engineers launching on the back of a paraglider, the 12m X Air inflated as well. After they clear the mountain, the AE engineer unhooks from the paraglider and flies the 12m X Air down to a lake. Looks to be about 2500 to 3000' altitude when he unhooks. At one point in the vid the Evo and glider are flying side by side. This kite is so simple to rig and fly. Whether on a land or snowboard/skiis, this is a great kite. Again, the only reason I parted with her was I lost my land site and needed a water foil.

Holy S$%^t...can't recall ever seeing a video where people on kites are getting that much lift and float. Does anyone know the wind speed at the time? What about the line strength? That would scare the crap out of me!!

I wonder if the 'pilots' are worried about equipment failure or getting blown out the back and hitting a rotor...it seems to me at that height, any incident would result in certain death.
Don't mean to bring the gloom, was just wondering if anyone else had similar thoughts or would actually attempt anything like that???

I didn't see any rotor. What do you mean?

Yeah, I didn't see any rotors in that video and there didn't appear to be any type of 'swirling wind' on the frontside. But at the height those guys were getting, my concern was that if a gust hit, they could be blown over the front and then as is common in the mountains, encounter swirling, unstable air on the back.

thats a fun video... there are a zillion other videos of Ozone, Flexifoil, Flysurfer, Boom.... all who are jumping off mountains and super float all the way down...

mountainsides have topographical updrafts... it doesn't take much to lift off a sloped surface.

yes equipment must be inspected from kite to harness to insure nothing will break at 100' elevation.

Some of those guys are running heavy lines, inspected daily, double harnesses etc. At that level, they're not just some hack flinging themselves off a cliff.

Wicked vid though and still need a go on an Air Evo.
