ice board

anyone here try anything like this yet? https://www.instructables.com/id/Ice-Skate---Skate-board/
little brother has this grand idea of drilling a single hole in old ice skate blades and mounting them to his mountain board. at first all i could think of was how they'd bend axles, then changed my mind to thinking that the blades would just snap at the mounting hole. the threaded rods in this iteration seem to make this actually pretty doable.
yes, i told him that he could just wear a pair of ice skates.

Beat me to it, Randy. I was just watching those the other day. Looks like a nice system. Would be a cool thing to try if you have skates just lying around.

Tom - there is also a blade you can attach to a snowboard that looks pretty cool, the switchblade: https://www.kiteboardonice.com

To me riding an ice board with a kite would be a few steps backwards when ice(hockey) skates give you superior edging, mobility, turning , BRAKING, ability to skate and create apparent wind, etc.

But I have a skate background. If I was from a boarding
background I might be inclined .

On the Roller-Ice-Hockey-Skate-Blades-(for conversion)...I've always wanted the comfort and INSULATION of a Rollerblade shell with removable inner boot(or like ski boots) for ice skates , but there is no recreational ice skate made that has a plastic shell with removable inner boot-like the boots of rollerblades. Oh...and quick ratchet buckles on the shell too please. Nope.... not out there. Go figure? Always the lace up w/ limited partial padding(in ankles). Here's where a conversion to ice blades might create such a ice skate.

(PS.: I'm discounting the old, discontinued, oddball, and poorly made Bauer Turbos)

That said, I just wear a thick padded sock instead! Not too bad.

thanks rtz, ssayre, and mr. ski for your contributions. BRAKING never entered my mind! by the time you send your kite up to slow down on ice, it could very likely be too late to avert disaster.
snowskate! never heard of that! i'll look deeper into that idea and see if it works on ice. he's got a large frozen bay near him.

snowskate

hey
any recommendations for snowskates that might be best used with a kite? doesn't look good for ice, but that ice is probably covered with snow more often than not.

Again, I haven't ridden any of these, but they look like they turn and edge just like any other board. Either power slide or edge upwind to stop. And give yourself more than 10 feet before you hit the trees :D

I had forgotten about snowskate, ssayre - that's one I'd really like to try. I'm more of a snow guy than an ice guy. Ice hurts. But as all things, I reserve the right to change my mind. Gotta get my hockey skates back from my friend that borrowed em last year.

mr. ssayre, you have just made me $283 poorer. i'll imagine that the future fun will make it worth every cent.
this should be very interesting, because i cannot ride a skateboard at all.

Awesome! let us know how it goes. I would already have one if we got more snow in my area.

It's been so long since I've tried to post a link here I'm not sure if I can, but Todd Hansen, in MN, used to post on here, and had developed the "Switchblade" attachment for riding the ice on your snowboard.

We have a few guys here using Switchblades. They work great.

Other options are Ice Buttboarding, or the Polynesian Ice Canoe (Ice Proa), or Nordic Skates. This video, and oldie but goofy makes it all look fun. Wish we had ice like that.
