PL Uniq 2.5 vs HQ Rush Pro 300/350

After 7 years of essentially lurking here and flying my 2 line HQ Symphony 2.2, I've finally decided to go (slightly) bigger and step up to a 3-line trainer kite. I've been looking at the PL Uniq 2.5 but wondering if that wouldn't really be that much of a difference as far as size. I've also looked at the HQ Rush Pro 300 and 350.

I really only fly static, don't mind getting pulled around a little (and I want to do that). Maybe some day I'll actually get a landboard, knowing I'd have to step up in size again if I do. I don't currently have much interest in doing anything on the water.

I usually fly in some smaller fields because that is what is convenient with two kids age 7 and 5. Recently found/rediscovered a bigger field with a nice park for the kids to play in while I fly.

Also, while I dislike winter, I've decided to suck it up and get some wind gear so I can fly when it's colder and the wind is better. Winds when I fly are usually 5 to 10mph (I think...). I have flown in winds as high as 20mph, though.

I'm about 180lbs for reference.

TL;DR
3-line PL Uniq 2.5 or HQ Rush Pro 300 or 350 as a step up from a smaller two line kite for static flying and maybe gentle landboarding if I get around to it. Trying to keep the spend down for now, under 250 USD for an RTF kite if I can help it.

Appreciate your thoughts!

EDIT: oops, thought I was posting this in Kites, Lines, and Accessories.

Also, I have an almost new HQ Rush 250 RTF for sale for $100 plus shipping. Complete with line and bar. 2 line though.

Nice to hear from you! Fully 13 posts in seven years. Hopefully those of us that tend to spew more often aren't boring you too much.

I've had some experience with the PL Uniq kites. While they are built well from a material perspective (as all PL kites are) they are not ideally configured IMHO. My big issue was the narrowness of the wind window and the severe power on / power off curve as you move the kite through its narrow window. On the plus side the Uniq is single skin and thus able to survive repeated pile-driving into the ground nose first and they pack up nice and small and light.

If you want to stay with single skin and you want smoother flyers with a broader window you may wish to consider the Born-Kite NasaStar-4s. They can be flown as two, three, or four lines from either bars or handles and are very nice grunty static flyers. Earlier models (NS2s and NS3s) can sometimes be picked up on the used market and are fine kites too. The NS4s have nicer bridle lines than earlier models and fewer bridle lines in general which is a good thing as the bane of SS kites is excessive bridling as bridles have to do more shaping work when the second (unnecessary) skin has not been added. :D

lol, thanks Windstruck... Don't have much to contribute and never actually made it to WBB back then.

Randy, well 4 lines plus 2 lines averages out to 3 lines per kite, right? U2U sent.
