I don't buggy.

In my opinion, the best high-wind kite is a 2-line sport/stunt kite.:eureka:

When I am flying a kite I actually feel like a kid again all giddy It is hard to describe the feeling but I don't feel that way doing most other things.

Over 50 when I started.
Needed some greater thrills in life, I suppose.
Wasn't interested when my bones were more bouncy.
Now I'll prob. just be pounding them into sawdust....:ninja:

I most certainly am in a mid life crisis according to my better half and kids.
Last August I saw a kiteboarder on Lake Simcoe and thought - cool, need to look into that...
Watched some You-tube videos and a month later was booked for lessons with Sam Medesky at Sauble Beach.
While waiting for lessons I bought a Hydra 350 and wore it out (when we had wind).
Struggled to get up on the board and never quite got it prior to freeze up.
Now I have the gear below and am addicted. With our crappy winter was still able to get snow kiting several times and reached speeds of 60 km, WHAT A BLAST!-Thanks Markite. Never even got to transition to the snow board as not enough snow on ice. Now am waiting to get on the water and finally get rocking. Booked for last week of April in Hatteras. Best place to learn so I'm told.
Now I...look at wind differently, (like a cat watching a leaf in the wind),
Now I...have trouble focusing on anything except kiting,
Now I...can't seem to have enough "stuff",

If you don't make any mistakes, you are not learning anything....

BTW my Phantom 2 is on order, and I turned 50 in Jan and became a grandfather in Feb.

Yeah, kind of in a crisis, looking forward to more mistakes, God I love it.

Hi all I am 21 with 37 years experience, i got into kiting after a stint racing downhill MTB, but I crashed big time breaking a collar bone. I had to do something and kites and a buggy were the go.

My peers think that I am a candidate for a funny bin, for travelling halfway acroos the globe, to hook up with other nutters and charge around a dry lake at break neck speed, and I why did you go alone.

Because I can and will, I havent looked back am a hardcore tree and flag watcher again.

in my youth I was a pole dancer (windsurfer )

Hah, this is a great thread, glad it has resurfaced!

I flew single line kites a few decades ago. And then I saw the dual line stunters. I flew them too. Then I saw the buggy guys down at the Long Beach kite festival. I wanted to buggy too, but how, where, with who? Rock climbing and white water kayaking took the spotlight, the kites came out now and then when I was too tired to climb or paddle.

Fast forward two years ago, I was 54 and taking my friend's kid to a local kite festival. I saw a display of Rev's. The control and precision looked impressive. I started to fly Rev's that summer. And would see Bladerunner every week or so as he ripped across the field, arc powered, floating through the air at the end of each run, 'whoop whooping'.

Bladerunner is a super friendly guy, hugely passionate about flying and a great teacher. Before I knew it I was hooking into an arc and Frankenbuggy was on loan to me. Finally, by the following summer and at the age of 55, I was learning to kite buggy. Sure it took three decades to get there but, mid life crisis, nope, just never enough time to do all the cool sports that there are out there to do!

Kiting has a nice blend of skill and thrill , I can kite year round and there are lots of options as to what kind of kiting I'll do. I'm not surprised that guys who have been doing fun outdoor things all their lives would get into kiting. Definitely not a midlife crisis , its just something mad fun to do , its as challenging as I care to make it , and the adrenalin rush keeps me coming back for more. Skill and thrill, its been a lifelong trait for me.
