Congratulations. What was your previous PB?

Previous was 2+ years ago at 50.5 mph. Honestly, I ran all day that day and it was only when I stopped did I see that at some point I hit 50.5 mph.

The day in the video was the perfect storm. One major factor was that the wind was perpendicular to the best surface at Delamar. My bearings were crying all day and I said "I hope the bearings don't give out..." a few times throughout the day.

Since I have gotten home, I replace every bearing in both buggies and every bolt with SS (including the nine in the 2-piece rims) in the PL suspension buggy. Done!

Wow over 50+mph

Paul I always felt like there was a big wall at 60 mph. 58 was linear to the effort to get to 50 and 55. But 60 was like a barrier. Did you feel that on your fast run? Also almost all my PB runs were 3-5 mph increments. 10 seems like it could be a brown trouser moment.

I thought that I hit the 50 mph wall. I was there for 2 years. Granted, I only buggy once a year at IBX so the chances of increasing were limited.

In this instance I did a run of 52.x and was very happy. Took a picture of the GPS. I reset the GPS and did it again. Each run I reset. Each run I got faster. The 2nd to last run was 57.7 (I think it was).

UtahTami made an interesting comment once we stopped. She said that I was riding in a square pattern. I would work three sides of the square to get back to the top-most part of the Dry Lake. The run would then pull me right past the island and allowed the biggest run-off (downwind) which I would take.

To your question. I do agree that small increments are the way to get faster and faster. If I would stayed out after the last run I am positive I would have been faster. But, my silly math-mind said "100 kph is a good place to stop" and did. It was not until I got home that I determined that I was UNDER 100 kph.

Also, I was comfortable in the 40s. I had dozens of runs in the past in the 40s. This day I had several runs in the 50s and was comfortable there. The jump from 50s to 60s was imperceptible. I knew it was fast but could not even guess what the speed was before I looked.

With the 3.8m Vapor it kept pulling long after I was ready to stop the run. I had to turn significantly downwind and put the kite behind me to slow. This is consistent with UtahTami's statement that I was riding in a square.

I am REALLY bummed that I could not get a video from the island as I flew past it. It would have been an amazing shot. Especially if I could either put the kite over the camera, slightly in front of the camera, or even slam into the camera!

I feel your pain with not getting it on camera, happened on my last outing too, but it's really hard to be a camera guy while putting your mind into the zone where it needs to be for potentially dangerous runs. Too much to think about. We could all do with a support team.
