introduction

Hey everyone,

Just want to give a quick introduction, I'm a noob landboarder living in the Great Lake state. Currently flying fixed bridle kites but ready to try depower. This is a great forum & I look forward to learning from the wealth of knowledge.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Monkey House Toad; always room for a few more good chimps. Glad you can join us!

Smart play making an introduction as you also looked to purchase something right out of the gate. From time to time we've gotten some weirdos trolling in to disrupt our smooth laminar winds. Smooth that is until somebody makes some bedsheet comment about some of our beloved single skins and then all bets are off.

"Mr. Cline" is a good guy and a trusted person to do business with in the used kite market. A Peak would further be a superb first depower kite as you expand your interest beyond fixed bridled kites. Just to cover all bases, do you have a harness to go along with that DP? You'll need on to fly it.

Born-Kites:
RaceStar+ (3.0m, 5.0m, 7.0m, 9.0m)
NasaStar-5 (2.5m, 4.0m)

NasaStar-3 (3.2m)

Ozone kites:
Access (6.0m)

Flysurfer Kites:
Peak-5 (2.5m)

Buggy:
Peter Lynn BigFoot+ nose & tail; midsection VTT rail & seat kit; home-brewed AQR

Thanks for the welcome.
Fired up about getting a depower kite & I'm still trying to figure out if I want a waist or seat harness.
I've narrowed down my choices, just have to pull the trigger.
let me know if you have any recommendations.
Thanks again.

what waist size will this harness be when you find it?
seat for buggy, waist for most other is what I see mostly.

Flying mostly single skins, with some orphans, the American flag, and a PL buggy. US01

I'm thinking a large or XL harness. I plan to use it for both summer and winter so I need one that will do double duty.
i.e. will fit with bulky winter clothes on as well.

Nice to see another land boarder!

I've just been loosening my waist harness to where the side flaps barely even fit in the pockets any more to fit around my winter jackets. Kind of doesn't matter, tightening the harness and squeezing that much fluff it doesn't ride up. I would concentrate on a good summer fit. I know folks also buy or modify winter jackets with a spreader hook hole, probably the best solution if you snow kite a lot.
If you're new to landboard, you will probably keep your kite high, so your harness will tend to ride up a bit. That goes away as you get better. If you go waist harness you will want something that fits the curvature of your back properly. Unfortunately the only way to find out is to try a bunch. If you're anywhere close to Mac Kite you should definitely go see them. I've only dealt with them on line, but great bunch of folks there. IMO the harness is the one thing you don't want to skimp on. But awesome for you if a cheap one fits :D

Welcome to my favoritest forum on the light web Toad! :frog:

I'm just going to throw a shout out for seat harnesses - for me at least, they offer a little more back support, and I don't mind the slight "Pooh" effect when walking around in it. :piggy:
