I've been buggying for a few months now. I have 3m and 6m Hornets. I bought the Hornet's as I understood them to be good kites to start out with and I've yet to use them in the full wind range so lots of practice and learning still to do with them.

I'm looking forward a few months and thinking of progression but don't want to go to de-power yet. I want to get the most out of flying and buggying with FB's first

So I;m looking for some advice over what to buy next..is it something with a low aspect ratio?

Tao - glad you are getting into buggying and liking it! I've never flown the 6m Hornet, but the 3m one is a staple in the diet of many power kiters and I owned one at first too. Since you aren't feeling the pull towards DP just yet you could go with a slightly more aggressive kite to see how the geometry suits you. The Hornets are pretty low aspect ratio already so if you want to progress within the FB category you might want to choose a high aspect ratio kites, more akin to a racing kite. Be aware that these high AR FB kites can be pretty cruel to you and some of them carry names like widow maker, etc. With performance comes more risk of getting yourself seriously yanked around.

id say a 4.5 don't get caught in-between...
I've gone thru at least doz different 3 meter kites never really cared what was above me
they all did just fine till i broke them

Maybe try a harness to help tame your kites, hold more power, center yourself in the buggy better, enjoy longer sessions etc.

Maybe get a van. Get a van Paul, and we can be men with ven.

Hiya Windstruck....appreciate the reply..So it's a higher aspect ratio isn't it..ty. And it's always good to have a reminder of the safety /danger aspects, I don't bounce as well as I used to.I'm starting to get into doing controlled slides, guy at the beach told me about looping the kite on turns (doing it with the 6m looks and feels great..bring it down into the window 2ft off the floor..it's so slow but powerful)..all the usual stuff I suppose an newby buggier should learn in the 1st few months..I'm thinking that something nearing a FB racing kite would give a diferent flying /buggying experience. I was watching someone fly an Ozone Bullet at the beach the other day and it looked really nippy. I think I'll ask if I can have a quick fly of it next time I see them.

Hey Tom ...Nice one Bolero-bud...I have actually recently got a harness..yay...it came as a revelation to me the first time I tried one. I was offered a nearly-new one from a kite-surfer at the beach a few weeks ago and I got the correct spreader bar and all the pulley/spinney bits from a kiting mate. I'm still getting used to it and as you say, it's good for all of those reasons you mention above. The other day I did a 4 hour stint at the beach (incl short breaks for coffee of course) with the 6m mainly using the harness..mind you, I couldn't move properly for a day or two afterwards.

The guys here are far more knowledgeable than I when it comes to FB and depower kites, so it might be a good idea to drown out my ramblings. Haha. Look forward to seeing what kite you choose.
