New "Hybrid" Flysurfer just launched

Looking forward to trying one out to see how they compare to my Peak 5s.

Anyone here have a chance to fly a Hybrid yet? Thoughts?

I've done a side-by-side comparison of the Peak 5 and the Hybrid.

In a nutshell, the Peaks are more powerful in a given size and more nimble.

Gust handling for both kites is about the same but I would say the Hybrid is more forgiving.

The drift of the Hybrid is otherworldy. Peaks drift amazingly well but the leading edge of the Hybrid resists some of the luffing that other single skins exhibit when drifting and encountering wind shifts, or holes.

The Hybrid is very much like a Peak and a Viron had a baby. It's more docile and relaxed than the Peak (if you can imagine that) but it can still be flown somewhat aggressively, but doing so won't give you the same sporty performance as the Peak.

Thanks Feyd!

One more question: I'm thinking about getting a 5.5m Hybrid. What size is this equivalent to in a Peak 5?

Joe

In the smaller sizes, they are almost equivalent. Fort example the 5m PK5 and 5.5m Hybrid are both in the 12-22kt sweet spot wind range wise.

Once you get above the 5m range a kiter like the 9m Hybrid is equal to the 8m Peak.

This said when put side by side the 5m PK5 still felt like it had a bit more power than the 5.5m Hybrid, IMO.

And both the PK5 and Hybrid in the 5m range had more power then the PK4 equivalent.

Ok got it Chris - thanks!

Curious if you have had a chance to fly the 11.5m Hybrid yet? My guess is that it would have a really good low end, but still light enough to stay airborne during lulls.

My Peaks are simply awesome, but I'm looking for something more water relaunchable...

I haven't yet. It's not a size I've had much request for and it's bigger than most foilers tend to seek IMO. :-(

Ok, yeah...the 11.5m may be too much kite for me on hydrofoil. I'm really impressed with the low end of my 8m Peak 5 on 22m race lines! Maybe the 9.5m Hybrid would be a good option if I wanted to go any lower and have relaunch-ability.
