Safety Helmet for Jumping?

Hello,I just bought a 5m Ozone Riot, and Ive been reading post about kite safety and about people getting hurt.

I know I should buy a helmet.Does it matter what kind of helmet I buy?

I found a nice looking Bell BMX Bike helmet that I like,it's matte black, nothing fancy.

Do most of you wear helmets?
Thanks for your time,Dave

Dave,

I wore a Fly BMX full coverage for buggying and snow kiting. Worked great and had a visor but is a little warm in the summer.

Lately I've been using a Cascade Whitewater helmet for land & water.

I always liked good ol' ProTecs also: www.protec.net

Most helmets will have at least a CPSC (Consumer Products Safety Commision) certification, but that is minimal protection. For a few bucks more, get ANSI certification and even better is SNELL cetification. It's still chaeper than an MRI....

I have mine primarily for the buggy, but the nastiest bonk I ever got on the head was static flying with a 3.5 meter. At that moment, I understood why cartoonists always draw stars and birdies flying around the head of someone who got bonked.

I agree with spending more for snell approved helmet

what little I have in my brains I still want to protect my investment..

I use to ride with a open face gyro helmet {snowboard type} that had plenty of ventilation for comfort... until I came close to kissing the the dry lake bed..... full face motocross jaw bone is what I have now less ventilation but more comfortable in knowing "if" I ever kitemare it be worth the price

Thanks for all the help and information.I never thought about the different certifications of a helmet.

I was planning on buying an open face helmet for static flying and jumping, but now that I think about it,I want to get a buggy at some point,so I guess a fullface would be the way to go.

We havent had the winds needed for me to to fly the Riot yet,but i want to be ready when we do.

Im new to powerkites, and I hope the 5m Riot was the right choice of kite for me, I guess time will tell.
