Is this possible

On land you can buggy and board while on water you can only board. Would it be possible to use some sort of dingy or boat to be pulled along by a kite in water?

or am i just crazy

Not Crazy,
It's called the Kite Kat. I think it's made by Peter Lynn. A quick google search should get you more info. Pablo has ridden the one at Squamish and says it's as easy as a buggy ! Jake from Windflow in Seattle also has one.

Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.

Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.

Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

PL Kitecat and the up and the Quadsurfer. Kite cat has been in production for a while, Quad surfer is still in the early stages by what I hear.

I've ridden the KiteCat, super fun and easy to get the basics, bring lots of power because it'll hold it down. Went out in 12-22mph with a 16m Scorpion and it was a blast, had the kite tuned down quite a bit, but still almost managed to get the boat up and planing, one pontoon barely skimming the water, the other one buried just enough to hold a line. Upwind is stupid as well, I was heading off close to 45deg into the wind without any problem.

theres a new version I saw last week in SF I might be wrong but I think it was Peter Lynns son new catamaran built for kite sailing this is not a remodel cat built just for kite sailing and dude it was leaving other sail boats as if they were standing still..
Dean was there maybe he could chime in and tell us more about this kite boat

here a photo of it with alcatraz island in the back drop 20m. ? and move like a 5 m. wing...fast

I haven't seen the one at Squamish but that is exactly the one I knew existed.
Peter Lynn thinks of everything !!! Soon he'll have a colapsable model for us apartment dwellers :cool2: At least he thought about that with his buggies already :!:

Yup, newer version of the 2 pontoon one in the vid I posted above, the quad one is the 4 pontoon model in teh vid.

We've got the newest model up here, so any reviews would be current, By what I hear they've increased the pontoon size and improved the duckbill noses to them to prevent diving. Seems to work great.

I was thinking about how cool it would be to have retrofit pontoons for the buggys...ones that would bolt on the axle(replace the wheels), and have a deep keel for side tension (lateral force)....and one for the fork up front.....most buggys are fairly well balanced already so it seems like a good theory, ....anybody good with boat building?

It's in the PL history, he tried a number of them that way and was never satisfied with them.

Although I keep thinking of shaped foam floats, possibly fairly flat surf board style with a fin built into the bottom, standard barrows wedged inside so they polk out about 2" from the bottom of the fins, It'd be awesome to be able to cruise around on the tidal flats and hit the water from time to time.

I'll get on it, but first I have this crazy idea of super low wind surfing using my 7 1/2 ft surfboard and a 10.3m Combat. I'm hoping for a windrange of 6-10mph winds.

Lots have tried to make an amphibious buggy, I'll take a run at it one day. Someone did make a good water/landboard, as in it worked and you could get a ride out of it, but not wicked at either.

Old topic I just came across and thought.... what about stripping/rigging an old Hobiecat14. I see them going for cheap around here if you can find one. They were a blast back in the day. :wee:
