Well, took the plunge:

I have ordered a Profoil 1.0.

Yeah, it's a tiny kite, but I'm only 155 lb, and my 50lb kids tend to borrow all my normal kites. I intend to use it to learn how to control the kite, but the kids have visions of being dragged down the beach...

Putting together lines should be interesting. Should 150 lb spectra be strong enough, or should I go with 200 lb? Anyone know any good sources for line sets for these smaller quadline kites?

Welcome to PKF, & enjoy the ProFoil, Teds smaller kites Rock... checkout all you can find out here about them... I use 300/100 on my ProFoil 1.5m² but then I've also had it up in 35mph winds & its pulls like a small truck & moves like its on speed in those winds... Enjoy & make room where you live for the REST of the kites you'll be buying...

I wasn't familiar with these kite ( I'm a newbie)The bad news is your going to pay twice as much for handles and a lineset than you did for the kite.

Handles come with the kite, at least according to the webpage.

Worst case, there's linesets available for ~$45 for 374/220 lb 60ft lines. (coastalwindpowersports)

Gone with the winds kites "has" 200 foot rolls of 150 lb ( $17) or 200lb ($24) spectra, and a sleeving kit ($7). That will make a 50' lineset. www.gwtw-kites.com

Welcome to the forums and congratulations on getting your Pro Foil. I too have the 1.0m along with the 1.5m and 2.5m. Great kites!

If you plan on getting some larger kites in the future, I'd recommend just taking the pluge to get yourself a nice line set that can support larger kites, such as an 82' 220kg / 100 kg set. These would be longer and stronger than you'd really need for the 1m but will support 2.5m to 5m kites. I use my 82' set with the 1.0m and 1.5m ProFoils just fine in 8-12 mph winds.

I got mine from Angus at coastalwindsports.com.

I understand your logic. However, I will pretty much always have company when I fly. If I get bigger kites, I will want to have this one ready to fly for the kids. Therefore until the supply of kites exceeds the supply of flyers, I want to set each kite up on what's best for that kite.

I thought the same thing. I bought a spare set of lines that were 220/100 in 82'. I put the lines on my Beamer and they killed it. It was slow through the window, needed extra wind just to be able to stay aloft and turn it. I flew it this way for awhile not really thinking about it being the lines. One day at the beach with time on my hands, I switched the lines back with short ones (65' I think) on the Beamer again and the 82 footers on the Pansh. Both kites came alive. The Beamer was suddenly zippy and responsive. If I did some spins to untwist my lines I had to back off the spin or it would overshoot and respin my lines the other way. So I am now a firm believer in having enough line to handle the kite, body weight, and wind speed. More importantly recognize that line length has an effect on performance. You might make a tradeoff to gain some other advantage like getting above tree shadow, but out in open wind each kite has an optimal line length and strength. Oh, the longer lines on the Pansh gave it enough room in the sky. The longer lines actually made it more flyable.:singing:

Guess Im lucky so far, that all my kites from the little 6' (quad) Thunderfoil to the Buster 9.0m² can all fly on my 300/100lb/100' spectra lines with no problems... But I need another 2 line set just to give back to the RushII 250 which hasnt seen much use since the Profoil & Buster showed up...

Now I am still waiting for the spectra I ordered 2 weeks ago from gwtw kites to arrive so I can go flying. ...

Feeling the same way about my line situation somedays, "Do I have the right lines???" Do I really Need 100'foot lines, they really NEED a lot of room, & with a small park to contend with, its not always possible, if there are many people around, yet they do help with wind shadows, but using (one) 1 set of lines for 3 different kites has its drawbacks, you cant just switch kites quickly, (with out having to switch lines) then getting the lines rehooked exactly the same way, with the wind blowing can be TONS of FUN someTimes... NOT!!! Enjoy the ProFoil when the wind picks up, a good place to start would be some steady 10mph so you get an idea of what the little kite will do... They move QUIK, & Not without a good amount of pull, think small truck depending on the winds !!!
