4m Ace

Got 2 hours on the Ace today. Sweet kite! Very, very impressed! Winds were about 10 to 12 mph with a few gusts thrown in. Kite flew very well. Reminds me alot of my old CF5--it likes to stay moving! Fast, nice power thru the window but isnt snatchy. Did a few runs on the board. Sines well and when you send her you will get air. Also popped a few 3 to 4 ft pendilum jumps with nice float. Will be interesting to see how the float is on higher jumps in bigger wind. Brakes are slack but I was flying and photoing using a strop! Impressed!

Early days still with the Ace. Flies more like the Crossfire, just keep her moving and she delivers. 15 to 20 mph winds should be interesting and maybe a Bego 400 comparison........more to come!

tried ace 4m today. Impressive. Had 8m ace out, was getting 10ft pendulum jumps, with 4m in same wind just some scuds when kitelooping. Overall, good kite.

That blue and yellow give great contrast! I didn't notice they were using colors on the body of the kite. I really liked that 5m ace. It has me wanting one but I can't really justify it till I'm making my kites do some work besides scudding. I need to concentrate on getting a buggy.

I'm thinking about snapping up one of these Pansh Ace 4.0's while they're still on sale for $99. I don't really need to be buying another kite at this point as I'm far from bored with my new Beamer, but I figure the price on this will go up any day.

I'd rather get the 5m Ace, but not for practically double the money. It sounds like the 5m used to be $99 as well, but I've already missed that boat. For a cool hundred bucks it seems like a good opportunity to double the kites in my quiver (can it be a quiver with one kite?.......hmmmm) and try out a kite with a bit different feel. I'd like something with the potential for small jumps and the Beamer didn't feel like it would do anything but drag me even in stronger winds.

I'm a little unclear on the line/handle quality. Am I correct that they are now of a usable quality or would they need to be replaced right away?

Based on what I've read on this forum the Blade IV 4.9 is what I'd really like to get, but it's so expensive (about 5 times as much!) that I'd have to save my pennies for quite a while. I figure the Ace might hold me over till then.

Is a 4.0 too small to offer any decent jumping? (I weigh about 150lb.)

Are there any kites that fall somewhere between the Ace and the Blade that I should be considering before I make an impulsive purchase?

Perhaps picking up the ace @ $99 would work if you planned to re-sell. If it goes the way of the 5 you should be able to re-sell at a VERY small loss once they jack the price up ?
At that size and from what I here it will lift you, but watch out coming down !!!!

Actually the float isnt bad. I had the Ace and the 6.5 out today in some stupid winds and a poor signature area. We had a front pass thru and the winds went for 8 to 10 gusting to 15, then 10 to 15 gusting to 20, and its blowin off the charts now. I got a couple good 6 to 8 foot pend jumps on the Ace and shes a snatchy little SOB in winds over 20. Again, it was a risky day to fly with the winds but she hung in there pretty well. Needless to say the 6.5 got put away first! Heres a couple pics when the winds were down a bit. One pic the blade is pouting, the Ace pouting in the other. Again, a stupid day to go out but Im not always the sharpest knife in the drawer!

Probably should be a separate thread, but it's interesting to note the difference in the two kites both designed for lift. The Ace with the open center cells and the closed outer cells and the Blade with vented and all open cells (maybe two closed at the outer edge, can't tell).

Can anybody explain the pros/cons of each?

Thanks.

While we where on vacation I got a chance to fly tridudes ace 4m. It was not one of my favorite kites. It was a very angry kite and not to stable. Personally I like the ace 6m better it seems more elegant and easier to fly. It may just be my body weight or something like that. But it was not one of my greatest kite flying experience.

Well thats not good! I traded my Profoil 3.5 for the "angry kite". Then again an angry kite might be a good challenge. I have a 5.0 and well.. we all know the ins and outs of the Aces.

I have not had a chance to fly the 4.0 yet. Can you expand your experiences with it?

Yes hahaha:D Like I said it may have just been my size and weight. to me it seemed like the kite was just an unhappy. It jerks you around alot it pushes and pulls it was very frustrating. Any other questions just specify or ask my dad beamerbob.

I thought it was a fine kite when the wind was smooth and I stayed away from the edge of the window. If I took it to the edge and there was a blip in the wind, it would bowtie and I couldn't shake it out. It was awesome to see in the sky. I loved the contrast of the yellow and the blue together. The ace especially in that size has a very thin cross section and the blue border gives it a racy look. Wexler tends to be pretty abrupt in his inputs to a kite and that didn't agree with the Ace in the winds we had that day. You will be fine with the kite, and it can take quite a bit more wind than you would fly the 5 in. Don't you wish you had taken that 6m now?

I am not BeamerBob's son either.

Thanks for the info "Dad!" I will have to be cautious in my 1st few flights with the "angry kite".
I kind of like that name for the kite! My limit in my winds is the 5m!!!! I am lucky if it gets flown once a month in the winter season. Usually my 2.5m bullet is enough to skud for 100 feet nonstop. :frog:

I bought the 4.0 Ace, and I don't really like it, compared to my Radsail. It stalled easily, and then it sometimes folded over itself at the edge of the window. Did anyone experience this? Was there a break-in period that I was just too impatient to get through? Or are there some mods to do to fix this? Thanks....

Theres quite a difference in my blade and ace... but I'm sure size has a bit to do with it.

The blade flies very smoothly and predictably (except that time I ended up 8ft up w/ no notice!), and you have to really make her luff on you, I can recall maybe one bowtie in choppy wind.

The ace (when set properly... she really requires some tweaking) flew quite a bit snatchier, but flew well, and fast. I got the ace for really high wind, and this week we had some. A couple times she lifted me right off the board (glad I remembered those knee pads). Quite a bit of pull in the right wind. My doubts about whether the kite would fly right have been put to rest.

Like I said, a hard comparison to make, as theyre totally different sizes, but for 100 bucks, I dont regret the ace at all. She flies when I'm scared of everything else.

But I love my blade, and I want more. I dont think I'll buy another ace.

Happy kiting, sorry if I confused you.
