Base Boards?

http://www.baseboard.com.au/

Has anyone tried one of these yet?

I remember seeing a post here a while back about someone getting in a demo.

If not, maybe I can try to get one for us to try out in the US.

Joe

Look kick butt. I've not seen one before. Looks like it would be nice for kites. Especially if there is no speed wobble.

Is this intended to be amphibious?

Looks like it might be a fun DIY project...but then again, I avoid buying things at all costs.

Its designed to be amphibious , but don't expect any real performance on water. Kinda fun on the beach surf though.

And yes its a great DIY project (I did it!!)

1. Get a crappy old small snowboard off Ebay.

2. Put straps in place of the bindings.

3. Get three mountain board wheels. (Ebay, as well)

4. Use a drill and a scroll saw to cut holes and notches just big enough for the bottom of the wheels to stick through.

5. Go to the local hardware store for parts to mount the wheels on the top side. (No fancy pivots or trucks here)

6. Shim to get the height right, and TADA!!! A Baseboard!!

Now just finish off with some sandboard wax on the edges and you're good to go!

Kinda draggy when trying to edge hard. Not the best upwind performance. Oh, and be prepared to fall on your a** the first time you go from sand to water. ;)

Anyone got an active link to the site, the one posted above seems to not be working at the moment.

Here is a video I found

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovd7DqA6A70

And how does it turn if the wheels dont pivot? Are they casters?

What about something like this on an old skateboard deck and some small hard rubber wheels for parking lot riding? Maybe figure out some way to mount the front wheel as a caster?

...and I have an old snowboarding laying around. I love it for stupidly big spins because its so small, but this looks like a fun idea...granted I'd attempt to cut down the weight as much as possible. If I can edge and jybe on a landboard like I can on my snowboard, I'll buy/build it.

It turns by using the arc of board edges which guide the board through the turn, (just like a snowboard turns) This is why sandboard wax is so important. Too much drag otherwise. You can order sandboard wax from "sandmasterpark.com" located here in Oregon.

Definately NOT for use on concete or asphalt! It will destroy the board in less than a minute, and there's nothing for the edges to dig into.
