If I were to consider being so anal as to keep a log as I'm learning, what would I keep track of?

Date & Time of Day / Kite / Location / Discipline / Temp & Weather / Wind Avg / Wind Gust / Notes?

Anything else I should keep track of? Is this really ridiculous? I figure it'd give me something to do while I rest between scares ; )

Hey nothing anal about that to my mind (but then according to wife I'm an over the top OCD)..........I do the same. Actually mine is more of a journal than a log - notes, comments, thoughts take up most of it. Even after a vert short time of flying, it's helpful to go back and read some of the things I wrote........

To maintain HPAC ratings HG & PG pilots have to keep log books. When I first started flying, almost 18 years ago, my instructor showed everyone how to keep all the pertinent stats.
But, as an aside, he also let us see some of the other notes he kept about what kind of day it was, who he was flying with, more subjective stuff. I've always kept my book that way. The notes about personal bests, new friends, the kinds of things that make memories, those are the important stats.
And, it gives you something to do while you wait for the wind to blow.

I keep a log book, at least for now, so I can go look and try to find patterns for certain wind directions, that might be related to; cleaner wind, wind speed, gusty or not. My aunt is huge into sailing and reccomended it. as that was how she learned the wind, and I swear she can predict it, either that or make it windy.:tumble:
