Where are you? (inland, coast). Your size/ weight?

Most land boarders I know, plus my limited experience on a board, would suggest that a fixed bridle kite on a control bar would be favored over a kite on handles. You give up some control and finesse in light winds, but you gain the ability to free a hand for a board grab (later) and it makes it easier to fly toe-side (kite behind your back) on an opposite tack.

I have seen a lot of folks start with something like an HQ Beamer TSR 3.6m, which is purpose built for, and comes with, a bar and harness loop (optional for later), but can fly on a handles if you want to try them later.

Beamers are good performers and are stable enough to learn on while you learn the board, too. Later on you might want something lifitier like a Crossfire or Blade, or step up to a de-power foil.

The Flexifoil Sting 3.3 is available with a bar and so is the Rage series, where the 3.5 might be a place to start. The Rage is faster but still stable enough for a beginner. The Bullet is the predessessor to the Rage and there are some used ones available.

For sizes mentioned here I am assuming adult, 150- 200 lbs, but there is a bit more to it than that.

Brooza's are nice and smooth, absorb gusty nicely, decent power and lift. I found it helped when learning how not to get pulled out the front door
