Hey, where can I get one of these? I know they show distance but do they also show speed? Today was the bomb.Wind at 20mph. I got off work early Field was a little damp great for sliding.I know I got going at least 20-25mph I just need a gps to prove it! I am new to bugging so that was really fast to me. Great day with the bullet. It was also the first time I got her on two wheels.Oh, and I think my fat a#@ bent the rear axcel a little from bouncing so much Rockville not very strong. Also an issue of having to tighten my wheels every 15min. I guess that is from so much sliding in the turns. I cant wait to have more room and try some sand I hear it is the best!!

hey, How do you like the npw's for buggying? What sizes do you have?

Garmin has a good rep.. E-trex may be O.K. but I'm not sure. I have the Fortrex 101. It's great tells everything from sunrise to altidude and a TON of other stuff with convenient adjustable screens. I set mine to display pesent, max and avg speed + total distance on one screen. If it only had wind speed !!!! It can be connected to a P.C. but doesn't come with patch cable or software for plotting on google earth maps. ( to brag ) It also uses 2 aaa batteries. The 201 has P.C. connections, bragging software + a sealed reachargable battery making it a bit more water proof.

It's one of my favorite accesories !! Amazing how slow I am actually going.It keeps me humble ! :wink2:

I like the idea of having it and a cell phone with me if I'm out on the bay or out snowkiting alone.

I have a .5m,2.8,5m,7m and 15m. They are great on short/no lines or the 15m rocks when no one else can move. I also like it for tight places and lots of single lines............aj

Top speed in 48mph with the 3m no lines, i hit this speed at the same time luk was setting the record on the playa 73mph. I got the .5m up to 33mph on 40m lines in 35-50mph winds.............aj

Yea thats just it I say 20-25mph but who really knows. If I am not going that fast hats off to the record holders!! Oh, and ha -bla-bla I need to keep it simple. LOL garmin, thanks.Just speed and distance would be nice Thanks snowbird. And I can tell ya the wind speed within 1mph. most days!

I get a laugh at how often I can walk up to someone and am right when I tell them the avg. speed . I also know it is usually different up higher ! My wind meter is one of my least enjoyed accesories !

I've been wanting a gps for awhile now and I think I better get one for NABX. What do you recommend the foretrex 101 or 201 ? Is the only difference the rechargeable battery ? Thanks

I wanted VMG (velocity made good), so I got a basic mapping GPS, the Garmin e-trex. Great price at Amazon.com

I sold my e-trex to Crosshatch then picked up a Garmin 205, but I returned it the following day. I wanted something I can wear on my wrist like watch but the 205 looked huge on my tiny arm when I put it on. I'm now thinking of getting the newer Garmin 405. It looks more like a regular watch with more functions and doesn't need calibration. The problem is I really need it for NABX and there has been a delay on the 405s. I heard it won't come now till May. I may just have to go back to the 205.

I also have the Fortrex 101. Small, convienent, and as Snowbird said, a TON of stuff on it. I love it, and would buy it again!

I just got a GPS (eTrex Venture HC) and used it in the buggy for the first time on Sunday.- I'm quite happy with the results. I imported my buggy route into google earth and made a few cool visual things that I stuck on this page....

very cool new toy... I can't wait to try it out some more! Also, for any of you Mac users out there Garmin has released a Beta program called project Bobcat that allows you to transfer data from your GPS to your Mac easily. In the past all of the Garmin stuff was PC only.

The 201 also comes with patch cables and software to download as per Archkiters example.

so as far as the etrex goes is the venture the model to have ?
I'm not looking for some serious high tech piece of equipment. I just want to know where I'm at and how to get back where I started. So in case I'm out on the dry lake and can't get back I know where to start walking or if I can call someone I can tell them my position. Also do they all tell you max speed ? I want that too so I can brag when I hit 15 mph

I think that the Etrex ia a little less compact, weather and water resistant but still a good product. The fact it comes with downlaod capabilaty is a one up on the Fortrex 101.

Is the Etrex as accurate as the Fortrex ? I think it is ?

Ok ... I'm on the search for a foretrex 201 or 101 if the price is right. Anyone object ?
