helmets?

All this talk about helmets when flying and my poor attempt at being Superman Sunday made me think about buying a "brainbucket".

I looked at a few "Pro-tech" skate helmets today but found even the xl was a little tight. What do others wear? I am primarily looking for us old farts {18+!} to answer,

The helmets are mostly geared to younger skaters and I am wondering if their is an adult brand.

Well, sorry to brake the 18+ rule, but I though I could help. I'm wearing a Predator helmet. Tight on my too, and my heads not that big, but I love it. The brim keeps the sun out when peaking to the sun.

I also use a Preditor and find it super comfortable.
Full face mountian bike helmet is what I'm thinking of going to for the added saftey + dork value :spin:

I know I probably skimped but I got one suitable for biking and skating. It was made my bell and I got it at Dicks sporting goods. At least it is a hardshell. I wore it both days this weekend. I didn't bang my head on anything though.

Fit is as important as anything !!!!
If it doesn't fit right you won't want to wear it. If you don't wear it , it doesn't become second nature to do so. Now I feel odd when I don't have it on.
I think any helmet is better than nothing. I got the preditor because I needed one for water.
Ask Davinch what he would buy ! He's alive and talking thanks to his :wow:

Yeah...I'm really glad I had a helmet on that day!

I was wearing a Giro Fuse and I replaced it with a Shoei motorcross helmet

http://www.shoei-helmets.com/mx/helmets_mx.aspx?h=10

I'll be using it on the frozen lake and with the Dirtsurfer.

Bells are nice. If you break it, they will send you a new one for $25-35 if you send the old one with a description of the accident so they can do R&D.

I think my whole helmet was only about $30. It isn't a bike helmet like yours, it is a hardshell helmet like skaters wear. They listed it's intended use as bike/skate. I figure if it can handle vert skating, it should be robust enough to land on the dirt. It fits snug and comfortable as well. I forget I have it on. It is the same helmet my boys wear when they skateboard or ride their bikes. Did they know what you were talking about when you listed your activity as "kite buggy"?

Beamer you "hit the nail right on the head" - sorry could not resist!

The Bell helmet is what I am looking at. I saw it online at Dicks for around $30. I already have a full face "real" helmet for my buggy but... and no disrespect Snowbird! but I am not wearing a full face for static flying. :ninja: Dork factor multiplied by 1000!

That was funny. I'm trying to imagine something with a higher dork factor........................ Unless you go with leather dress shoes, black socks, and plaid shorts. OH! OH! wristbands. Oh man, I already wear kite killers. Do they count as dorky?

Bell Balastic Helmets (full face) are good, cheap ($80.00 USD), and its what I wear. Bell Moto Helmets are nice too, for those that like to wear googles, since they have those tips to stop your googles from moving around.

Gyro also makes another good full face helmet. for you fashionistas, paraglider helmets are cool too.

still trying to find the helmet i want here in canada: http://www.bellhelmets.com/product/put_pics/pic.cfm?pic=557

my advice go look @ paragliding helmets they are the best for our sport. These helmets give you a carbon fiber kevlar shell and are made to take a heavy impact. Now on to the best part about these helmets. They are designed to give you a much more open feel as far as peripheral vison goes. The full face helmet doesn't take away theis vision like motorcycle and most bmx fullface helmets do. Another plus is that they weigh next to nothing. I personally use a Lubin helmet, but those are not made anymore since Lubin died, but all paragliding helmets are basically made the same way I have looked at other manufactures and they all pretty much use the same materials and build quality. My 2 cens.

Depending on the surface I am bugging on I wear a full face BMX/Motocross helmet or a K2 Snowboarding helmet. The K2's are fine, they have detachable ear covers great for cold or hot temps, they have a ratchet mech. at the nape of the neck to tighten it up snug, for those that want to mount a camera on their lid. They even have a line, that has the earphones and jack built into the headliner, that you plug directly into your IPod. they are sweet. $40 to $80
