Holt Allen #1375 Spinnaker Sheet Twing Block, purchased from Annapolis Performance Sailing. (I use the smaller version on my sailboat for spinnaker twinge lines).

I'm using this one. Just over $30 and has a 4000lb breaking strength. It's also CE certified - whoever that is ; )

I think I actually have one of those. I used to rappel and we needed it for a highwater creek crossing to save a half mile walking every time. We didn't dare get in the water if it was rushing because if you got washed away you went down the freefall waterfall that we were rappelling beside. 150' drop. I need to get that out and try it now that I have my quick release.

The Petzl climbing pulleys are nice - actually, anything that is a 'cheek blocS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K- where you can open to access the strop is good. I first just used a Harken Little Bullet Block. Plenty strong, smooth, ands cheap, but since you had to untie the strop to get it on and off, I tended to just leave it on. A smack on the forehead ended the 'go cheap' idea.

I use the Holt Allen because my Wichard bail releases through it cleanly. The pivot pin on the block is stainless, and the cheeks are delrin. I think the Wichard bail would wear on the aluminum plates of the Petzl. The Holt Allen ran about $42, and has a breaking strength of around 1600 lbs.

If you want the best, when your piece of mind and life are on the line this is what you will want. They aren't cheap but what value do you put on your health.
The block is a Holt Allen - 27mm Midi West Marine Catalog # 110967 Cost $29.99
Quick release Winchard 2.75 o/a length West Marine Catalog # 583940 Cost $89.99 This quick release will disconnect at any angle of pull and at any pressure. I have tried every other QD on the market and this is the only one that will work.
Thanks Brad Rex

I have a picture to attach but can't seem to figure it out. If someone will tell me how you can see the picture.
Thanks Brad Rex

Brad, I'd like to see the pic. When you reply to this thread, just look down, below the box you type in. On the left you see "Attachment" and to the right of that you see a blank rectangle and, just to the right of it, a button with "Browse..." in it. Click on the browse button and navigate to where you have the picture on your computer. Select the pic to attach it to your reply.

just a note for you guys.Breaking strength is rated as static ,meaning it can take weight standing still and hold the load. When using them in Dynamic situations, meaning weight in motion, its safe working load limit is only 10% of static rating.Meaning if you take a pully rated for 500 lbs. and drop a 100 lb. weight 20 ft it will destroy the pully. being in motion is a force multiplier , so choose the higher rated hardware instead of marginal. Your life could depend on it. I used to cut trees in town for side money . I can take a 100 ft pine down, between two houses 35 ft apart .With a 6 ft privacy fence in the middle, and never touch a thing but the ground. So I know alot about rigging, being in the shipyard has helped too ( all those old timers know there #@%$#!, they didn't have all the fancy tools and gear we got now,but they still got the job done!

Quick Disconnect

Thanks Lobo for the attachment info.

I have used this set up for almost 3 years. I do not wear a harness but have 1.5 inch o-ring straps from the side rails of my buggy. My buggy weighs in at about 130 lbs due to my telescopic back axle from 150 cm to 190 cm on a libre full race. I get a tremendous amount of traction and side pull so this setup gets a tremendous amount of weight put on it all of the time. It has never failed me, and I have had to ditch everything a couple of times. I have also been picked up about a foot without even skipping a heart beat. This is the sweetest setup I have seen or used. I actually use one Ozone Kite killer with lanyards to both handles. The line that trips the qd is 2 inches longer than my longest stretch with my x-over/strop and still within a comfortable stretch with my left arm. So I can let go of kite to kill it or kill it and disconnect my qd to alow me to get out of buggy if it were to get on top of me or pull the loop on the Ozone kite killer to get out of everything if some thing really bad were to happen. It takes a little time to get used to but once you do you will not kite without it. I always launch while seated in my buggy. The only small draw back that I see, if you are flying in real light wind and have a hard time gettting your kite to azmuith or if you in advertantly go to grab something with the hand your kite killer is attached to you disconnect the qd, and you have to land the kite to rehook the qd.
If you have any questions let me know.
Bard Rex
