Newbie Seeking Wisdom

Hello I am entirely brand new to the forum as well as powerkiting, I have a small agressive dual line kite I've done some work with and recently became aware of the grand extent of powerkite sport genres. Kite buggying and boarding really appeal to me but I want to start ground up. I've been poking around looking at different kite models and I was wondering what the more experienced would recommend to a beginner for learning kite control and to start do some jumping with as well as maybe some less-extreme buggying. I'm looking in the $100-250 range for a kite that will be versitle with not getting in over my head.

I am 5'11" and weigh between 155-160lbs.

I was browsing Wind Power Sports and the New Tech Ballistic 3.6m seemed to catch my attention as one that would provide me good lift area and user friendliness and perhaps later on serve as a good high-wind kite when I amass experience.

Input on this kite or another that might better fit my purpose in the same price range?

Thank you any and all feed back appriciated

Welcome to the forum! Check out the Pansh Ace At Dakitez@yahoo.com. He is a good guy And will help with a kite for you at a good price. Something in the 3-4meter range should be good to start with and within your budget. There are lots of kites to choose from though with lots of good sellers. Do some research.

haha I work fast I know but I did alot of research and decided the QuadTrac Profoil 3.5m was about as good as I was gonna get for the money so I went ahead and bought it considering it was 50% off and only 4 remaining. Its a good start I think but I can assure you I'll be looking to you veteran kiteers for advice in the future. I'm so excited to get to fly this thing next week when it arrives!!

What? a newbie doesn't want to know which 12m kite can give him 20 foot jumps? You mean you want to start slow and gain skills before you start with high powered lifty kites? What a breath of fresh air! This NEVER happens. However you have set yourself on a path that the knowledgeable here would agree with. Put some hours in with your profoil and you will know when you are ready for something bigger. Heck, starting out conservatively like this, you could run the place someday. Welcome aboard.

Hey PKF members just wanted to say I got my Profoil 3.5m and the HQ 25m line set (costalwindsports ran out of the Peter Lynn 25m so I got upgraded for free:D). I took it out yesterday during a visit to my sister at A&M and it was frustrating (but good for first time out) with winds from 0-5mph). Back in Dallas this afternoon I felt pretty confident and I hit up Richland Community College soccer fields. Wind was a steady 4mph gusting up to 8-9mph and I must say POWER KITING IS AWESOME!. Just with that little bit of steady wind and a 3.5m I was able to do a little bit of hopping around ( a good 4ft of air). I got a good feel for how the position in the power window affects the power of the kite. I cannot wait till I can get a buggy and being doing that.

Thanks PKF for your present and future support/advice!
