Rounded -vs- squared tips

What is the purpose of the squared end of the surf kite board?

Thanks,

Jerry

Without seeing the board you're referring to I'm making some assumptions, perhaps incorrectly, but generally a kiteboard has squared ends to extend the width of the board to the maximum length it can without adding to weight and momentum (for spins and tricks). The design of the ends of the board also help determine how much spray gets in the riders face and how well it pierces on coming waves.

Is that what you were asking? There's a lot to board design and a lot of opinions on what works and what doesn't.

Example (home build)

I am building a board, the dimensions are 60" x 16". The long flat edge of the board is 41" the curved ends have taken 19" off the edges. Before I finish it, I am curios if the edges should also contain some curve and the ends should not have been such a long curve. The board weighs 9lbs right now, flexes a little but not to any excess where it will break. Standing on it while balanced on a couple of bricks feels quite promising.

I think this is version 1, the next one I cut out will be about the same size but shaped more like the following;
