Flysurfer Speed 10m (1.5 and FDS Modded)

Time for my first review of my Flysurfer Speed 10m, professionally modified by Power Zone.

This is my first depower kite, of my own. I've flown a few inflatables before this kite when I got my lessons. I've held off writing this review for this reason, I wanted to get used to it first.

The learning curve on the Flysurfer kites is, as expected, pretty intense. I braced myself for messed up bridals, and some painful flights. Luckily, I have leebrianh to teach me the way of the Flysurfer to avoid much confusion. I owe him a ton for all of his help.

After a few months of flying, I'm really confortable with it. I can pack, and unpack it rather clean now. I know the power zone like the back of my hand, and can fly blind now. One thing I've come to appreciate with it is its amazing predictability. This could be common of all depower, but I'm super impressed with it. I was able to be riding towards a 4 foot cement blockade, and time out a clean jump straight over it. The audience at the local park liked that one.

I can't speak much out water relaunching, as it hasn't gone down just yet. [in the short time I've taken it into the water.]

I love the wind range. The 10m is PERFECT for me. It was great to have it in the air, riding, while the buggiers were switching from 5m, to 3m, to 2m Beamers.

The 5th line is a comfort, knowing its there for me. And its rather clean relaunch after the 5th line was deployed is great too.

What am I missing? Its a beautiful, predictable, powerful, beast and I'm loving it. I'll be adding more as I get into the water more and learn more about it.

nice review, i really want a FS. size? in 8-12mph like a 10m or 12m maybe. the peter lynn Guerilla demo vid has me hooked, the inflatables i use are nice but the low wind threshold has me missing a fair amount of nice low wind rides. DE power rigs can really spare you a beating.

about what year is this speed I and would this be a high aspect?

a closed cell depower rig for 8-12mph.. what about a PL comparable? I remember catching some info on a FS VOODOO, are these usable at 8mph? the ranges i'm use to are 15-20mph and this great on the water with lei. a foil or open/closed cell would seem way harsh in those conditions. i trying to compare lei and ram air/ closed cell rigs. i have never seen one and want learn more before buying.

MD,

or do we call you Doc? If you would like a water sesh with a FSer, Im in Charleston. You can demo my 8m P3. I was gonna let you try my 13m P3 but the gentle giant just sold. If you like 15 to 20 kts, youre in for a treat. At 15 kts the 8m starts to crank up, 20 kts up, she is on fire! With the amount of available depower in the FSers, they arent harsh at all. Great low end as well. With the P3 13 on my directional or longboard, 10kts is all I needed.

I have no experience with PLs, but the only knock on them from reviews Ive read is low end performance. If your looking to be on the water under 10 kts, the FS Speed 2s and Silverarrows will deliver. PKF forum memeber Powerzone can hook you up with more intel and a FSer. Good luck and let me know about a demo session.........

Great review!

How do you avoid tangled bridals? I hear this can happen with Pulse as well.

Thanks.

Ive never had tangle issues using the FSer dvd method and inputs from DaVinch.............. The 5th line can be a pain at times but thats easily rectified. The more you fly and pack/unpack, the better it gets. Once you have a system, stick with it.

OT... but the Voodoo and spirit were not Flysurfer's best... its an ok kite, but the 07 and 08 stuff is FAR superior.

or get an 06 speed and mod it like Ryan did.... those are awesome kites. glad you're stoaked on your 10m Ryan!

THANKS tridude, no titles. they only separate people. My name is chad. The demo offer is supreme. Last sat hear in HHI was my best water runs yet. The week looks good esp wed. I can get to CHAS most any time. Definitely need to hook up @ SULLI or IOP not sure what station# RIght before Breach Inlet (south) would a good spot if i remember correctly.

I am at intermediate skill level I'll fly in anything that isn't offshore. I've been flying about a year and have had more board time with winter conditions, my biggest hurdle has been board control. time has improved it. I'm 215lbs. i would like to get a better all around board the one i have seems limited in the swells and chop. Point to point cruise and up wind with the bow. FS seem to be a refined tool for flying. the lei seems to be a muted easy to use copy.

I want to see these FS fly. Seems to be a tidy package. we will hook up in CHAS, i have a trip to see Angus about a beamer 7m in a couple of weeks. thanks

chad

Sullis is station 28 to 30. That area is call the bath do to the shallow water and high water temps in the summer. I usually fly at Folly. If the winds dont deliver, the surf usually does but can meet you at the other 2 locations.............
