Peter Lynn Zero4 bar - No safety leash?

Does anyone know if the Zero4 bar by Peter Lynn come with the safety leash? It's that elastic looking rope that gets connected to your harness and stays connected after pulling the safety release.

Do you buy this seperate from the bar or should it come with it? Someone on ebay sold me their bar but it didn't come with a leash.

Also, how important is this? If it isn't all that useful and if the kite can be safely flown without the leash, I guess I can do without. What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance! You guys on powerkiteforum are awesome!

YES , It comes with a safety leash http://www.powerkiteshop.com/accessories/peterlynnzerocontro...

NO, you don't absolutely need one. Until you let go of the kite !!!!

I would never sell a kite without a safety leash but I have received one without as well. I have learned to ask more questions + ask for pictures now !

Hmmm any idea how much it would cost to buy one (any brand). Heck it's probably not the hardest thing to make huh. Well, then again it's hard considering I don't know exactly what a safety leash looks like. I'll have to google some pictures and hope I can get a close up view of one.

So if I let go of the kite without a safety leash, the bar will probably shoot foward for a couple of feet and fall to the ground and possibly get the lines a little twisted.

That would be a best case scenario... you let go of a bar on a PL twinskin with no safety leash and it might land a half mile away... then drag the bar and things for a while... before finally deciding to crash....

omg seriously?!?! That's definately not good! I can imagine so many bad things happening with that...getting caught in eletrical lines...liabilty issues...hurting by standards....

UH OH. Thanks for the scare Taper. It's better to play safe than sorry.

So anyone know if there are any USA shops that sell them seperately? I tried a google search and I couldn't find any leashes sold seperately. =/

Lol... Not that I evvvver accidently let go of a scorpion 10m once... without having been properly hooked in... luckily I was over water and it went waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down the levee before it finally decided to stop and crash. Had to jump in a vehicle and drive down quite aways to be able to head it off.

Always have your safety gear hooked up and ready, you never know when you might step on a crab or something and slip and do something stupid.

So what kite did ya get anyways?

Since it's my 2nd power kite and since it will be my first depower, I purchased a used PL Venom 13m (mk1) kite with the Zero4 bar for roughly $500 USD. Depending on how that goes, I'll see if I want to look for a PL Scorpion or PL Synergy later. :spin:

My other kite is a 5m elo radsail. It's super easy to fly.

So I've been watching the PL DVD over and over and I'm trying to memorize the complete solo launching and packing technique. I gotta admit, it's pretty complicated! I'm sure it will be a piece of cake after I get the hang of it. I haven't had the chance to fly the kite yet though. I'm a little worried since I don't got any kiteboarding buddies to help me out with my first launch.

So I'm trying to find an alternative to this safety leash since I don't have one and I can't find any that are sold seperately. Do you know if simply geting a thin rope (1/4 inch thick) that connects one end of the bar (the right hand end for example) to my harness will work?

Wait...no this won't work. The tension will keep the kite powered up at the right hand side and probably make the kite do the spin of death....

Hmmmm...

Or will it? Since the brake lines are attached to the ends of the bar, this would mean the home-made safety leash is applying tension to one of the break lines.

What do you guys think?

There's a reason the NSI leash is only $12.00. It doesn't have a safety release, which you really want on anything tying you to the kite.

I like both the Cabrinha and Airrush leashes, both around $20-$25 The Cabrinha is easier to deploy, but I don't like having a snap hook above the bar, which is what you get if you have it hooked to the ring on a front or rear line. A line can get caught in there, so I've changed mine out for a stainless threaded link.
