Flysurfers

Hi all

I'm still looking for my first flysurfer. All the ones for sale on here have me drooling. My question is about the Speed 1s. Are they any good still or are they outdated? What is the mod thats done on them to make them a 1.5? Also what is the difference between the speed 1 and 2?
I fly a lot of inflatables but have never tried a Flysurfer and don,t want to spend 1500 bucks until I know if I like them.
Anyway thats beside the point.
Thanks John

What kind of riding do you want to do ? What wind range ? What do you weigh ?

The Speeds shine as low wind kites in the larger sizes . In the smaller size they are a bit better suited to water and buggy racing. They are twitchy in the smaller sizes and don't like sitting still. The 1.5 mod increases the depower bringing it in line with the Speed 2.

The Psycho is sort of mid aspect and the Pulse's are lower aspect. If you want the kite for on land and in a smaller size go for a Pulse or Psycho !

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.
Flysurfer : 19m Speed 2 SA, 7m Pulse
Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.

Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

If you buy a new Flysurfer, you will loose money if you dont like (which I doubt).

If you buy used, and you dont like. You will resell fast, and not loose much money.

There is a nice choice of available FS now, and this is rare, so u could take advantage of it.

Hey John.

I have flown some Speed1.5 and currently own Speed2s. I haven't flown original Speed1 though.

Speed1.5 is not outdated. When you look at Flysurfer, top bridles are A, second top bridles are B and next ones are C. Original Speed1 bridle system ties B and C lines together so when you move the bar, they move at the same time.

Main point of Speed1.5 mod is to separate C bridles from B bridles, making it more depower.

If you are short on cash, Speed1.5 is a good start. You are lucky because PowerZone in this forum does the best job in Speed 1.5 mod. I am sure he can hook you up with one.

If have enough cash to burn, then go for Speed2. It just performs better than Speed1.5

Since this is your first Flysurfer kite, you might want to consider Psycho3 or Pulse2 or even Pulse1. Speed2 requires your attention more than Psycho or Pulse do while in the air.

My personal favorite is Psycho3. It's all around, jumps high enough and turns fast enough.

Hope this helps.

the speed series are advanced kites for advanced riding. the pulse and psychos are more intermediate/beginner models. also the pulse/psycho are better for inland use and higher winds.

we can hook you up with a 17m and 10m Psycho2 kites in new-like condition.

PM or email to set it up.

Hey all

Thanks for the replies.
I weigh 160 pounds and kitesurf and snowkite. I have a 12 and 14 meter inflatable kite and a Blade 3 6.6. I used the 12 meter inflatable and Blade all winter for snowkiting and just got the 14 meter inflatable.
The inflatables work awsome and I am fairly comfortable with them, but in the winter I am pretty nervous even self launching because of sharp ice and such.
I have heard so much about flysurfers I am thinking that may be my next kite.
I was asking about the speed 1s because I saw a good deal on one. I am now thinking you guys are probably right about the pulse or phsychos as I can fly a kite but by no means am an expert.
I would like one to possibly replace my 12 meter inflatable as it is getting old and has a fair bit of overlap with my 14 meter.
The wind range on the 12 is about 16 to 30 knots, but I pack it up about 25 or so.
Do any of you use the flysurfers in the water? I asked this before and someone posted the silverarrow relaunching, but where I ride (Lake Huron) there are 3 to 6 foot waves when the wind blows. The inflatables will ride over the waves 90 % of the time. Will a flysurfer relaunch in that?

Thanks again.
John

Relaunch on the Pulses are the easiest, my 8m was out in crazy gusts last weekend and i downed it in BIG waves about 6 times, relaunched amazingly easily i was very happy because i've never crashed them before :)
