Got the first kite, now what?

So, I am gonna get a Pansh Blaze 3m for my first kite.

It will come in the mail . . . then what? :puzzled:

Do I just throw it up in the air and run backwards?

Will I need to stretch the lines? How?

What if lines are different lengths?

Fun first kite you will like it. Just do it! Hook everything up and go for it. It should fly fine right out of the bag. Make sure lines are equal length. and have fun. And any advise given from BLADERUNNER WILL BE SOLID!

I'm sure you'll get along fine. I noticed my lines stretched unequally but I didn't "lock them in" before hooking them up. I bet as long as you do this you'll be a-ok. Loads of help here - we'll surely get you hooked! Great looking kite - what color you getting?

Hey, congrats

great choice and a couple words of advice the green lines are power and go to the front of the kite and the top of the handles (the red leaders on the handles:puzzled: don't ask why the green goes to the red)... there are black break leaders on the kite and they need shortening for the Blaze to fly good, I'm unsure the exact length but I'd start by tying a knot apx 12" from the bridal (where the black leader ties to the kite bridal, measure a foot down and tie a knot) on both sides and that knot is where the break lines should go... I recommend a lil slack in the break lines while flying with the break part of the handle pointing forward toward the kite...

check with Dlish I think he measured the length for reference...

don't go out in crazy winds either, and don't forget to let go when you feel unsafe... good luck... and have a blast... we'll see ya back here asking what the next kite should be...:singing:

Ok, so I have been trying all day to buy the Blaze from Pansh dot com and it won't let me. Everytime I try to pay for my order it gives me an error message. I have tried two different credit cards. :flaming:

What do I do?:puzzled:

I used PayPal and it worked just fine for me. I heard some time ago they had issues with credit card processing but I thought they had that taken care of. Maybe not?

Send a message to Dlish.

Odds are he will have what you need ! He is selling Pansh kites .

As far as the, then what !

Find an example of the wind window at Kitesurfingschool.org. Basically you can't fly the kite upwind. It will sit above your head or to either side at the edge of the window if there is enough wind. The power increases as the kite moves away from the edge and in to the area in front of you. Downwind.

Start with the kite downwind. Pull on the top ( front ) lines and the kite will go up and sit above you at zenith. Be ready for a rush of power and run towards the kite as it climbs to burn off that power. DON'T apply any brakes ( bottom , back lines) . Hold the handles with one finger above the fly line and the other 3 below.

Start by flyig SMALL figure 8's and generally trying to keep it under control. DON'T make too big motions.

The 2 most common mistakes at 1st are Over flying. Make small adjustments don't be jerky with the motions. Don't over do the steering. The other is applying brakes without realising it. If it's flying funny or looping odds are you are messing with the brakes.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Folks on here love to help out !

So, when I get it should I pre-stretch the lines?

How do I do that?

What if they are different length?

I have heard of tying nots in them to make them shorter. Do I then just let the extra hang down loose?

I've got a screw drilled into one of our fence posts that I hook one end of the lines onto - all four at once. wind them out, untangle them if need be and then pull evenly on all of them. Don't be afraid of pulling to hard either. Chances are they should all remain the same length.

As a general rule of thumb all of your adjustment will come via extra knots tied onto the leader lines (the ones attached to the handles) or extra knots tied into the pigtail at the bridle that you tie the flying lines onto. This is only if required tough so lock in your lines (prestretch them) and try it out. If it won't leave the ground with the bottoms of the handles pointing directly at the kite then the brake lines are too tight. If it flies right up and over your head to the point where it falls forward and the winds pushes down on the topside then the brake lines are too loose.

I should add that you likely will be adding an extra knot to the end of the brake line leaders for your kite killer attachment. The kite end of these leaders should go: Knot, brake line, kite killer, knot. All of this right at the very end so there will likely be about 1/2-3/4" between each knot.

Enjoy! And be careful - start in light winds and work your way up. My 3m Blaze was the first to yank me off the ground (super gust caught me off guard) and prompted me to buy all my padding / helmet ; )

Myself I have never pre streched lines. I fly mostly Flexi line though. The only adjustment you should have to make is with the brakes. I have flown alot of kites with Dlish right out of the bag and they fly fine. Only a couple did we have to shorten the brakes. Find the length that work well Imo don't leave to much dangling cut some off if you need to otherwise it will just get wrapped around the lines or the bridles and cause other problems. The line when and if you fly in stronger wind will stretch it self. Then when you fly you will be able to tell what ones stretched. and just by holding the handles to make the kite fly straight you can tell which ones streched and roughly about how much you need to lengthen or shorten. I am sure everyone has there own opinion on line stretch. Thats just mine. Hope that helps. Don't stress to much over it like I said most of them flew fine right out of the bag. And line adjustment is pretty simple.:borg:
