I am only familiar with Fixed Bridle and Depower kites. I always see everyone talking about Flysurfers and Peter Lynn's Closed cells......Now basically my question is do you have to have someone help you with launching and landing these kites? and if the answer is no..then how is it done alone?? I am always out alone so was just wondering if this would be a kite type that would be right for me. especially since I have a soft spot for HQ and the Neo is gonna be out soon. Flysurfer kites can be self launched and landed.

Depending on the winds, you can either launch in the middle of the window, or at the edge the same as your Montana.

The advantage when launching a Flysurfer closed cell, is the kite takes longer to inflate and will not pull much when partially inflated. FS kites self inflate while launching.

In stronger winds, you might want to launch from the edge of the window by putting some sand on the wing tip, which will drop off when the kite gets in the air.

Self landing:

Just pull both brake lines, and the kite will fall off from the sky. Then secure the kite. In stronger winds, you might use the safety line for landing.

FLYSURFER!!!!:wow: I WANT ONE!!! so expensive though. like some people say though, a flysurfer can be a one kite quiver..........now to add to my question. sometimes i just wanna rest for about 10min or so and i wanna drink some water. now is it a little tricker to keep them still on the ground while you do what you gotta do? like on my montana the brake is hooked around the kite stake and i all good.

Lay it with one wingtip upwind and one downwind. Weigh down the upwind wingtip with some sand or water bottle or something.

You can self launch any surf kite, open cell foils not counting here, flysurfer is the easiest, cuz it has brake lines, so pull those, kite lands, to launch, power lines, flies the same as an open cell kite. Peter lynn's being the next easiest, lay them out flagged on the ground, pull the lines, it pops into a C shape, and launches, then inflatables from there, you place a weight on the wingtip, and launch pretty much the same way you do a PL, but it's a bit harder, since they already have a shape, so you cant just flag them. Both land the same way, just bring it to the edge of the window, and pull the safety. Of course if you're only taking a break, with an ARC, just tie it off to your car, and let it chill up there. :tumble:

Closed cell kites are a bit more tricky to land by yourself. Since they are still inflated they have some power left in them especially in higher winds.

I fly almost exclusively by myself and only fly open cell foils for this reason (almost the only reason). Closed cell foils are easy to launch because they don't have much power and will inflate as they climb into the sky.

When the winds pick up all you have to do is catch your open cell kite on an obstruction (skateboard, surfboard, bush etc) and the kite will collapse. With closed cell kites they retain their shape when you catch them on something and can still regain enough pressure to flap around pretty strongly.
