Best Place To Hang Your Golf Ball Stake?

So, where should I hang my stake? If it's by the side, then I risk injuring myself over it. When boarding or static flying, you don't always end your session where you started so you need that stake with you.

What do you think?

Take a look at this thread as well: http://www.powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=6726

I guess at the moment you are Static flying? I have 2 little opinions. I always 'plant' a stake before I start some where by my gear (it has a red ribbon on it for easy location) That way I have one when needed. I carry one with me (buggy but you know that from the other thread...) I would carry one on my lower leg below the knee on the side in a sheath it should be no problem making a carrier of some sort.

A cheap source of the golf ball stakes is the hardware store a big spike. and a wooden hobby 'ball' with hole in it (you can get them pre fab for under 1$) just glue them together. You can also just put the spike in a vice and beat the end in a circle. Land surveyors use a spike that has a loop at the top I don't know how much they would be but likely not too much. I personally use a big peg from the dollar store with a bit of rope in the top and a carabiner it is super easy to clip in the break lines.

Personally, I won’t carry the stake with me, or have keys in my pockets, or anything else that I wouldn’t want to land on in a crash. Sure, there MAY be times when it would be convenient to have the stake but there is NO inconvenience that outweighs the chance of being impaled.
I’ve considered attaching the stake / sheath to the bottom of my board somehow but I haven’t felt it was important enough to try.

The "DOH" solution for the buggy that I saw at NABX was everybody tie-wrapping a 8" piece of vinyl tubing vertically to one of the front forks. The tubing is soft enough to create friction such that a good bump will not let the stake pop out.
If I were to fly static or on an KGB I would consider an ankle shieth such as used for knives, as long as the top knob was not too big.

Angus just a thought if you added some silly putty to the bottom end of the tube that might keep it from popping out. Mine I made wrapping a bit of crazy carpet around it and riveting it to a strap I have it on the side rail.

Man, I wish I looked that relaxed in my PL. I have it in the longest setting and feel like I'm climbing into my washing machine. I'm not a small guy though. This buggy will probably be hitting the market again soon. I'm gonna need some room to stretch out a bit.

now I just wrap the brake lines around the axle of the board, and a carabiner on the buggy. I painted the golf balls lime green so I can See them at a distance ,I leave them staked at my landing zone. one day I was buggyin and I noticed a lady carrying one of my stakes, so I stopped and asked If I could please have my stake back. " oh , I'm sorry I didn't know this was yours" did I mention that I painted them lime green just like the buggy I ride?:o I don't know why she only took one. I like the vinyl tube idea, may just have to do a mod. so little old kleptomaniacs don't make off with my gear:lol:

BeamerBob she isn't very big, I am however and before I up graded I bought a longer down tube and that helped a lot! It wasn't hugely expensive and made big difference! I upgraded and am much more at ease in the new bug but before I did I got another year from the pl. I also added a cutting board behind the seat helped too. It allowed me more time to save for a better one.

I have never had anyone take a stake (I have left a few and the tide took one or two as well) But I have lost a carabiner to a child once a little guy took it off the stake and was playing with it I got it back from him landed and sanded the kite and gave it to him it was all quite funny. I also ended up running around the beach with him in the buggy... then his brother then a friend the next thing I know there was a short line of kids... It was funny, but i have never done that again... very tiring.
