So I uh.... broked it?

So this weekend I went to do a little maintenance on my ATB and I stood on it after realizing my tires were low and one of my tires popped out of the rim. Only half of it though. So i go ahead and try to pop it back in. realizing it's practically impossible with my hands I get a screw driver........ After trying this i hear a "tsssssssssss" "AH CRAP!" I ended up putting a hole in the tube. I went to the store, fixed the hole, and finally got one side of the tire and the tube on the rim. Now i'm back to where I started -- How do i get the tire back onto the rim? Any tricks? Or should I just take it to a bike shop to see if they can do it. Thanks :cool2:

They should be 2 piece hubs and taking the hubs apart is the best way I know of getting the tires off. You can buy a tool that usually comes with a tube repair kit that consists of two flat levers to help you pry the tire off and then snug it back on but if you can take the rims apart, that's the way to go.

When you put them back together remember to snug the bolts up but don't over tighten them as you create stress (and thus future failure) points.

Good luck!

snug the bolts up in rotation, finger-tight first, then around and around, keeping the pressure even as you tighten it all up. Easy to break if you tighten one all the way up b4 you go on to the next.

fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....

sting 1.7, dp power 2.5, crossfire 3.2, ace 5, blade iv 6.5, ace 8, ace 12...

also a couple of arcs, 12 syn and 12 phanny, but i\'m not yet up to speed on them.

bolts are no prob--skateboarded for a number of years :) I'll see on the rim when I get home. It's a cheap board so I don't know but we shall see! :D

I noticed you had that hissing sound while trying to put the tire back on. You won't win that battle if you have significant pressure in the tube. A little air to keep its shape is ok, but you don't want so much that you are pushing against it. THEN get the soap out and you will be on your way. Your tire will be nice and shiny when it dries too.

f0rgiv3n,

We have the same board and the same problem and I thought I needed to spend money for new tires.

I ended up completely deflating the air from the inner tube.

Removed the tire and inner tube from the wheel while the wheel is still on the board.

Reseated the inner tube into the tires and mount the tires/inner tube onto the wheel (just using my hands).

It wasn't easy but I was able to do it. I had to remove and reinstall the tire/inner tube several times because when I inflate the tire, the bubble on the inner side of the tire keeps coming back. What I did that fix it is when I inflate the tire, I put pressure on the area that tends to bubble that causes the inner edge of the tire to pop-out of the wheel.

Happy riding.

I GOT IT!!!! Thank GOD! Wow.... it took me long enough, sheesh! lol. Here's the story:

So after reading all of the suggestions I thought i'd try first the dish soap. I go out to the garage, look at the wheel and start rubbin' it down with good ol' dawn. after i put on the soap i start tryin to jam the thing on there. To no avail it only made it harder for met o hold onto the tire.

Ok, so after a few days i'm like: let's do this i take it to the local bike shop yesterday and "what? they're closed?" OH YEAH! it's sunday! woops! I pull out and drive down the road and see schucS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s auto supply. "ehhh what the heck" they say this "did you try dish soap?" LOL!

next is Sports authority, you'd think since they have a bike servicing center they coudl get it? "nope, couldn't get it... looks like you'll need some power tools: take it to a tire servicing center like Big O Tires".

I go home with my tail between my legs all bummed out. So i hop on here and start reading the suggestions again, i'm like what!!!!!!!!? why didn't i try what 12get12 was saying?! So i do exactly what 12get12 says and i also put some dish soap on it. Slides right on and now i have my board back. There's the long story of how i finally got my board back together. HA! what a headache. Thanks for the help, you guys ROCK!

Well to be a total kill-joy haha. I brought the board out a couple days ago and the tire ended up popping out of the hub again 8-/ I think when i took it to one of the stores they might have tweaked the tire so it isn't as tight now. BAH! Looks like i'm going to be ordering a new set of tires.
