I was just thinking today about what I typically take with me when I go out kiting for a day and I decided it might be kind of a fun topic to start.

so here's the question:

what is your favorite snack when you're out kiting? were talking homemade stuff here.

My personal favorite would have to be something one of my surfing buddies showed me which includes:

sliced apples
peanut butter
oatmeal

it ends up looking like dog crap but it really hits the spot after coming in from the water

at our local field, we have a Fish N Chips joint and a Coffee / Ice Cream shop as well.

sports drink, something crunchy like a granola bar or chips. GUM when you have sand in your mouth it collects in the gum and you can toss the gum and sand! It is all from the buggy!

Lots of ice water & some chips.

I always have trail mix with me.

good old raisins and peanuts, dressed up with almonds, cashews, dried mango, dried cranberries, dried pineapple, a bit of homemade granola, M&Ms / smarties, and anything else left over from my day job.... Lots of water, super strong black coffee in a small thermos, some fruit / carrots, peanut butter / hummus to go with it, stuff like that. No big meals, a little bit every half-hour or so when I take a break long enough to relax but not long enough to let my muscles go cold or stiff.

That's when I'm sorted out well.

When I'm lazy, it's fast food mcdonald's style, but then I can't go as hard or as long.

Always loads and loads of water. We usually hit the coffee shop on the way out to the lake (snowkiting) and get our bellies filled on the drive out. 20 minutes from "thank you, have a nice day" to unloading the gear. Biggest challenge we have is keeping the tops from freezing on the water bottles.

nwsurf - I'm intrigued by this concoction of yours.....care to elaborate (or was that already elaborated?).

well I think basically you can vary the ingredients as much as you want but from what i saw you would basically take:

Apples chopped up small (like in fruit salad)
Lots of Peanut Butter (I prefer Adams No Stir Crunchy)
and Granola or Oatmeal

mix it all together and put it in a tupperwear container with a lid. the apple slices will probably turn brown because apples do that but they will still taste amazing.

we basically ate it with our hands but you could use a spoon or whatever else sounds good to eat it with.


another snack my girlfriend just showed me is Lucerne Vanilla Yogurt with granola and either grapes or fresh raspberrys mixed in. by far the best tasting healthy breakfast I've ever had! if you have a cooler then its something you could definitely take with you :bird:

and BEER! :D

I eat breakfast before i go out, and take lots of water with me. I dont wanna stop flyin to eat.

Trips to my local park - eat before I go and bring plenty of water.

Trips to the beach - eat before I go and then Taco Bell afterwards (Nachos Supreme and a Burrito Supreme, Cinnanom trists and a large Pepsi)

Trips to El Mirage - Sandwiches, water, gatorade, candy and beer.

peanut butter pickle and cheeeze sandy wiches....and pie!

gotta pretty long drive after kiting, about 8 miles, but it's throught what us locals call the county mounty guantlet, like kooks of hazard style, BUT....the possee usually comes over for our protien/beer shakes...

protein-beer shakes?! Sounds... huh. I don't know how i feel about that i think i'm a bit indifferent :P

SCREW DRIVER PROTIEN SHAKES ARE EVEN BETTER!

I'm going to try the apple stuff tomorrow i think. Great idea props to ya. For liquid im thinking water tomorrow lots of water. Checked the weather earlier and yeah 103 degrees for the high. Im definatly digging the water idea.

If its a local place - Just gatorade (Longs has a special on the quarts .89 apiece). Long day trip just chips and granola bars - there's no real good terlet available so gotta keep my stomach light - I can pee almost anywhere - just can't let go a #2 anywhere. And yes a beer every now and then.
