QR question
I went out and bought a snap shackle today to use as my qr on my harness...

It will not release under pressure though even though that is what it is supposed to do. I hung myself from my clothes pole and could not get it to
release me.
So its going back to the store tomorrow. Any other ideas of what to use other than making my own. I like the idea of how this is supposed to work and
want somthing along this line.

I have basically that same shackle but mine has a swivel on the backside. Mine will completely turn me loose if I touch the release. Got it for $17
on ebay. Could it use a drop of oil? Maybe a half drop?

Ok Ill try that. It should release my weight when Im hanging from the harness right?
I mean I used some climbing rope I had and attatched it to the shackle and then hung myself from the pole. I should be able to pull it and drop down
right? Thats the most load I would have on it plus pull from the wind right?

Jason ,I see the problem.The pin is very blunt on the end ,most witchard releases are rounded on the end.I will go find mine and get a pic for you ,

You could try lubricating it with graphite...or maybe a dry teflon lubricant. Might help.

I can't find mine right this second, but I'm thinkin the pin is too big in diameter(creating too much resistance).And the end is blunt.Mine has a
swivel on the end too.

WD40 would help short term, but it attracts dirt. Don't know what to tell you about the butt lube...probably best kept on the bedside table.

I would take it back ... I wouldn't want to be thinking ... did I lube my qr today .. just before I'm getting ready to pull it because I'm getting
drug on my face heading for a barb wire fence 
bbrex has a great quick release .. I haven't personally used it, but the wichard he uses has been proven in the kite world. |

Do a search for Wichard on this forum and you'll find the one. If not I'll dig up the info and send it. The one I use is quite different than yours.

the thing weldngod has a picture of is a piston quickrelease, I've used them a lot sailing and have had lots of problem with them over the years, most
of the time they work OK but if they are feeling sticky they can be very difficult to release!
wichard or wichart (sp?) are much more reliable, but sadly they are more expensive.
there's a picture of a homemade parachute QR somewhere on the forum that looks good as well, a cheaper alternative but you would need confidence in
your sewing skills.
fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....
sting 1.7, dp power 2.5, crossfire 3.2, ace 5, blade iv 6.5, ace 8, ace 12...
also a couple of arcs, 12 syn and 12 phanny, but i\'m not yet up to speed on them.

This is the quick release I use. I have tested it with my 235# load as well as barely pulling on it. It releases every time. The red cord is the
release handle. Higher res pics in my sig link.

mine was $17 shipped. I'm pretty happy with it. I'd take it back too. You can show the store that it doesn't "release" like a "quick
release"should.

try a little anti-sieze compound, sometimes stainless is real pain. bolts gall up real easy w/out Anti sieze comp.

There is a known release problem with this type of shackle. There is a Wichard (sp) release that is known to release under load correctly.
Unfortunately, I forgot the type #. Search kiteforum.com and do a search for Wichard quick releases...lot of good information there.
