what is this thing on my flysurfer bag?

so I noticed there is a pouch that is rolled up and hidden on the outside bottom of all flysurfer bags and I have no idea what it is for.

does anybody know what this thing is originally intended for other then collecting unwanted sand and water?

Unroll it and stick your board in it!
It's pretty decent actually i used it all the time, put the bottom of your board in there and then use one of the straps attached to the bag to secure it

ahh makes sense now! I have stuck my board to the back before but I just stuck the strap through the grab handle so I didn't need anything to support the bottom of the board.

Kinda... i gotta say though i think flysurfer bags are dreadful bags - i know people say you don't ride the bag, but its certainly nice to have a good one...

They have no plastic zippers
They are made of some crappy material
They only have two pockets
They have no internal pocket for the bar and lines to sit in
They look pig ugly

On the good side they are nice and big and can fit two kites in... other companies put much more thought into their bags though - a lot including board holders that are much better

Still... at the end of the day, it is what's inside that counts

I'll agree with you on the zippers and lack of pockets, but why do you need a pocket for the bar/lines? Don't you wrap the lines up around the bar and roll the kite around it?

Isn't that funny ! While I respect your opinion I think my Flysurfer bags have been the best I have recieved with any kite ever

I have had Naish , Airush, Flexi ( a few ) , Peter Lynn ( a few ) , Profoil ( 2 ) and as if they count PKD and Pansh bags. Just curious who people think makes a better one ? And why ?

As far as the zipper goes. It's plenty strong. I overstuff my bags and get all my kites + pads into just 2 of them. The underlay to protect the zipper from eating kites is a very good idea. Only on newer Flexi bags have I seen that applied ?

None of my other bags afford me the room for my kit . I used to use an inferior camping bag to hold stuff. Of 4 bags I have only cut one. It was a ski edge and almost any bag would have been slashed. The cut never traveled. To me the material is pretty darn good. Right down to the drain at the bottom !

My bars are usually rolled in my kites. All my other bags have the spot for the bar on the outside  I keep a spare inside but never even thought about a pocket. The 2 outside are good ? There is also a 3rd on the top for your phone and keys.

Flysurfer comes from a paragliding root so I think that explains the bag design. I've met a bag or 2 that looked worse but never until the morning ! :wink2::wink2:

Gee.... reading this you would think Im in Love with Flysurfer :saint:

The only high end kites I own are flexifoil, and I gotta say, they make a pretty good bag. But your paying for it ,have no doubt! They are top notch in my book.

Yeah i was gonna say flexifoil and ozone make the real nice bags :)
i keep my bar wrapped outside of the kite, i used to wrap it inside but as Fred (FredBGG over on foilzone) showed me when i was in california it can cause discoloration and add sand to the kite, so i now leave the bar outside the kite and wrap it up, fold it in two and put the bar on top - if i had a pouch i would put the bar in a water proof bag (like ozone bags have) to keep it from adding any rogue sand/water to the kite :) That's just me being fussy mainly though hehe
Flexifoil and ozone are definitely the best i've had... i've used their bags for hiking without the kite even inside, just as a backpack - back in the day i used to use my blade III bag walking around :D
But you're right, it isn't too big a deal, just fussiness
I think plastic zips are really important additions though, salt can seriously mess up those zips...

Interesting ! I don't like my Blade III bag much. Just that one odd pocket on the Flap. The bar goes on the outside and my shoulder strap ripped off. It looks like it should hold a lap top to me ! I see it suits how you fold your kites well though !

I walk 1/4 mile to my spot ( up hill both ways :wink2: ) with the bag stuffed . 7 + 13m kite, harness, helmet pads, towel,GPS, windmeter, cameras, drinks and all that stuff + my blades slung over the top and none of my bags are showing strain ! Pretty comfy set up to

Which size kite is that? I like the way that looks. Can you explain in more detail how you roll it up?

Right now I fold my kite in half length ways and then fold it in half again width ways. I make sure all the bridles are inside the kite, put the wrapped up bar (I wrap it up past the pulleys) at the wing tips and roll it up.

I tried Dom's way of packing but I couldn't get the air out without a bar in the middle. So, I went back to normal packing, which is fold it half, put the bar on wing tip and roll them.

The only disadvantage of doing it is wing tip gets wet from the bar. Now P4 comes with a bar bag, problem solved.

I like Flysurfer bags overall.......I only wish they come up with a longer size bag for my Speed2 19M.

Yay they have bar bags! :)

Thats my old SA17 which, incidentally, is now nwsurfskates :D

So when i roll it i do half it first bring the two wingtips together and push any dangling bridles inside the kite, the bar i leave on the trailing edge of the kite and then i just do short folds/rolls all the way to the middle and the air just comes straight out like it would normally, only difference being that the bar is not wrapped up inside the kite but is outside it the rest of the method is the same - just no bar on the wingtips... make sense?

How much line do you wrap around the bar? I go past the pulleys and I can't put my bar in the middle of the kite without moving the tips.
