Washington State International Kite Festival used to let us pull people in tandem, and then they let us set up races. A problem arose when the AKA lost our insurance and that was the end of any organized buggying at festivals. Now that NAPKRA has the insurance we can demo or race at festivals again, and we tried to contact WSIKF about buggying but they would never return our emails as they promised and time ran out. There is also something else going on as I have talked to a few kiters that have banned or just don’t go anymore.
We do have a buggy gathering at Sunset Beach on Thursday during the WSIKF. It used to be a North American Buggy Pilots annual meeting to elect officers and fun fly. Since out friends Linda and Kurt Anderson have left the buggy field we now have the buggy fly in their memory.

not to hijack this thread but does anybody know if there is a place near westport/ocean shores that I could rend/demo a buggy? I'm going camping in westport this weekend and I'm planning on bringing the flysurfers and mountain board but I was thinking it would be fun to try a buggy

Hey Sailors,
I believe the issue in Washington is that the beaches remain a state highway.
Back before paved roads and automobiles, one of the only ways to transport people and freight along the rugged west coast of the U.S. was to drive wagons on the beach.

Historically they remain a part of the Washington State Highway System.
That's why you can drive your car on the beach in Washington, but not your buggy.

Tradition has allowed buggies to use the beach south of the 10th Ave access during WSIKF.
I have not attended WSIKF for a few years and that may have changed.

If conditions allow, and one does nothing to draw undue attention...

I thought we were getting access to Washaway Beach?

i know we can drive on US beaches, but whats the speed limit? 30mph? the last time i check we were faster on wind "eviro friendly" power.

oh well. i'll skip WSIKF and try to make my way to SOBB
