Size really depends on the area you are kiting in. If your friend is using a 4.3 meter kite most of the time and he is close to the same size as you
in weight, then your best bet would be to get the same or close to it. Usually most recommendations for first kites are between the 3 and 4 meter
size. It looks like you are in a lighter wind area and the 4.0 meter may be a better choice for you.
As far as where to buy in the U.S. We are a retail kite store and have quite a few kites in stock in the 4.0 meter range. There are also many other
stores around and it is always best if you support your local shop. Your local shop should have the best information regarding what kite sizes are
best for your area.
For kite recommendations, the new Scout by HQ is an awesome kite for landkiting (I am assuming that you are referring to kite ground boarding or
mountainboards). The Scout comes with an awesome "cross-over" control bar and can be used with or without a harness. Again there are many others on
the market. Let us know what brand kite you are looking for and we can give you input on how it is. For depowerable kites I recommend the HQ Montana
or the Ozone Frenzy. You will need a harness to use the depowerable kites.
Welcome to the forum!

We will assume that you have flown your friends kite ? If this will be the 1st kite you fly and the one you learn on don't go over 4m.
How it works is that with a smaller , more managable kite you will be able to be in control of the kite pretty quick. When you are actually in control
of the kite is when the REAL learning begins. If you start with too big a kite you have 2 BIG strikes against you ! You will be chucked around and
have a hard time getting to that important breakthrough point when you start to be the one that is in control. Everything you want to try will be
harder with far greater consiquences than with a proper sized kite. With too big a kite at 1st you will be stuck sitting it out when there is a decent
wind blowing or worse ..... going out in too strong a wind for learning. It will just generally be faster and safer with a smaller kite.
I expect that your friend is probably right that a larger kite is better for your area. Once you have learned !!!!! Usually a 5m kite will get you out
in the widest range of winds. Don't under estimate the power of a good 3 or 4 m kite ! It will provide you plenty of power for getting started. It
will provide enough power to get going on your ATB. Learning to work the power out of the 3 / 4 will make you a better flier / rider when you move up
!
Most people end up keeping their 3m kite as their high wind kite. That is why you will see so few for sale used. 4m is kind of an odd size and would
not re-sell as easy. Your friend already has a medium sized kite. I would suggest you get a good quality 3m kite. They are reasonably priced new. Then
you should buy a kite larger than your friends 4.3.
What kite comes in 4.3 m ????????? Are you SURE your friend knows what he is talking about ? Can you trust his advice / skills ?
The next step for you 2 is jumping and unfortunately that means an even bigger kite. The rule there is that even though you can get lifted by a
smaller kite you need at least a 5m to get the float you neeed to do it right. Take the money you saved buying the 3m and put it towards a 6 or 7 ???
Then between you, you will have a good 3 kite quiver
Best advice I can give you is to get a good quality 3m kite ( 4m only if you are huge or have very light winds ) and start getting educated in the
sport. The more you learn the more you will realize how much you need to learn. NO one has ever come on this site saying I'm sorry I started out with
a 3m kite . Search the posts a bit and you will find tons of post with people regretting starting off too big, complete with X-rays

There is a reason you can't find a 2 line kite in a 4m. ITS DANGEROUS !! The extra set of lines (brakes) on a quad line kite are the brakes, which
give you control. Don't be intimidated by the 4 lines you will love them after one flight.

Both of those are good choices if you are already up and riding.
Both of those kites are very user friendly. Not exactly high performance.
Keep an eye on the for sale section here. It is one of the best places to get a good deal on a foil kite. You can buy from anyone on the Good trader
list and feel safe. There have been a few Crossfires up lately worth looking at.

I have the beamer 3m and it is DEFINITELY durable, i have flown that thing to death(in a manor of speaking) for the past 8 months. I pull it out and
it still looks brand new(seriously!). I do only fly on grass so that also contributes but it definitely holds up. I also actually use it as my
training kite for friends, it's had it's share of crashes in the ground-- no cuts, no blow-outs, and it's still crispy
