Hi there. There are some other considerations, too. What kind of conditions will you be boarding on, and what will you ultimately want to do with the sport (freestyle, cruisin', etc).

Also, what kind of wind conditions you are dealing with (gusty inland, or clean coastal wind).

I will offer 1 piece of real general advice. Dont try and save too much money on the sport, or you may end up with something that doesnt work as well as you want it to. There are a lot of knockoffs... do your research about specific products. I have had many of my questions answered right here on this forum.

As far as kites go... we weigh about the same, and I started with a 3 meter kite in about 15 mph winds. I learned to fly in gusty, shifty conditions, and the 3m was just right for me. I didnt start boarding for a couple of months, and focused on really getting to know the kite before pairing it with a board.

Some kites to keep an eye out for are

Flexifoil (avoid the Blade for now, the Rage is a good beginner kite... I still love mine)

Ozone (No experience here, but have seen them in action, I'm sure someone will come by soon enough)

HQ (the beamer is the preferred beginner kite on this forum)

and there are a few others that people swear by.

As far as boards go... I also have limited experience. I will say that the difference between my two boards is astounding. My newer board is rock solid, and I havent found the top speed yet... it is lighter, and stiffer, and stays on my feet better than my older board (MBS Blade). In that sense, the newer boards are better, but my old one was bought specifically as a beginner board, and it served the purpose very well.

If you dont have pads, I recommend those, too. I tend to fly at the least with elbow and knee pads and a helmet. If I feel I am doing more than is safe, I will wear impact shorts also.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck

No experience, but have heard of both, and in mt reasearch have found that the reputation of both is good. Seems like a good price, too. I would wait for about 8-10 mph winds to get the feel for the 4m kite.

Radsail has had more success on your side of the pond. I know we have had a couple of radsail kites around here that weren't something I would recommend. They may have improved but the ones I have tried are some of the worst kites I've flown !

Dylan,

What kind of egg shocks did you have on the Blade board ?
If you wanted it stiffer , the red ones may have been best ?

Mine had orange shocks and the only time I got speed wobbles I could blame it on my lack of experience ?

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.
Flysurfer : 19m Speed 2 SA, 7m Pulse
Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.

Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

I was referring to the stiffness of the deck. It has a lot of pop, I guess... but it would bottom out on any big jumps. I have the orange eggshells in them, btw.

To the OP'er

As many have said, the cost vs quality very noticable in kites and gear.

The offer you are looking at will do you for a little while, but you will out-grow it pretty fast. The radsail kites are 'oS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K- imho, but are considered on the cheaper side of things. The board is a nice one, but definatly not for freestyle as the quasar is one heavy ass board!

If you want to go cheaper on one or the other, I would definatly spend more on the initial board you buy. With a kite, you always want to increase your quiver, however, if you start with a good board, it can last you years before you need to change.

My very first board was a trampa. That was 5 years ago and it is still with me today :) First kite was a 3m PKD which again, I still use but I quickly moved on to depowers etc

Gluck with w/e you choose
