First time strapless...

Supposed to be a light wind day so I bring my surfboard and my buggy....

Arrive at the beach and the wind is 16-21mph. Tested the PL folding buggy on BigFoot tires...worked great:thumbup: but of course after a few runs got the urge to go in the water.

Struggled in the shore break for what seemed an eternity..trying to stabilize my board under my feet...every time I'm ready to go...the board gets pushed by the white wash.

Got up for a short little ride and loved it. Soo much better than riding strapped (IMHO). I'd like to do it some more but I know I would have been able to ride more with my other board (straps). Just got to be patient I guess but I sure would like to minimize the struggling part.

Anyone have any tips on the water start on a strapless surfboard (i.e. feet position, etc).

a skim board around here works pretty good with grip bar pad

swing back and slam it

the surf boards just kind of pushes away, hard to slam too soft.

really have to hold it close and launch over and on to it kinda.... once the drive is hooked it gives a balance point.

have to be ready to flow with the kite and board my surf board skills are weak but if you can snap it back on the drive and flow out toeside and ready to carve it back before the shallows.

the strapped version i riden kinda bouncy more vertical feel on the stance

it 's a fun direction!

Yeah it sure is...that was my whole goal when I started....surfing the waves without the paddle! Quite a ways off but playing in the small stuff trying to get better.

Once thing I learned toward the end was just not trying to fight the current and when it subsided moving the kite which rotated my body and then the board (don't know if that makes sense).

I also had both heels on the board and then when I redirected the kite to start I would move my foot and push down on the tail edge and then let the kite push me over the board so my front foot would then be flat on the board. Just reallly tough doing it quickly and not getting my board flushed away from me by the white water.

BTW, got to try a skimboard one of these days...just don't know how it would handle the bumpy conditions we have here???

flat it is a deluxe ride on the skim

quick set and lift all very quick close to the tail only way to get resistance

alot of tumbles and last sec save attempts all very tiring ...the waves, the current, get the board, oh #@%$#! the kite

when it does come together its a nice breather
rinse and repeat

i have been hurt more in the surf , farting around, breaking gear , typically light marginal winds
