Shoe laces

Just wondering if any of you have had this problem. I keep getting the loop of my shoelace caught on the rachet bindings of my landboard. It makes a simple ejection a lot more hairy. Took a pretty good bash on the knee today instead of being able to run it out. On top of that my knee pad had twisted around to the side of my knee. OUCH!

Anyway...any suggestions? I'm in the South so I'm prone to using duct tape to fix things but I'm looking for a more elegant solution.

I don't know what kind of callouses your paws have but mine wouldn't take to the sandpaper on the deck too well.

That would get rid of the laces...

So...you're landboarding barefoot with foam footpads? Cool...that would make going from land to the water even easier.

Short of going au natural, what're the best shoes for landboarding?

SixSixone ? make some knee pads that aren't so prone to twisting away ? $$$

I haven't experienced this but tucking your laces in or going with those slip on , Old Skool boating shoes should work.

Those boating shoes are also good for scudding with the smooth bottoms.

^ Ditto.

I used to wear my hiking boots and needless to say they were very inconvenient. I got Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars and they are very easy on my GI. They are slim so it's easy to slide them in and out of the binding. The shoe laces are high enough to stay clear of the binding.

I'm thinking of getting a pair of chucks and giving them a try. Also, give wrestling shoes a go.

A lot of guys I jetski with wear wrestling shoes while riding. They swear by them.

As an aside I got my shoelaces caught on the throttle of myjetski while upside down this summer. It really sucked because I couldn't get my foot loose and everytime I kicked I thought my leg was going to get ripped off. Then I remembered I can pull the lanyard and kill the engine. It sucked for about 5 seconds!!! Must have been funny looking:singing:

Yeah...let's face it. Shoe laces are hazardous in these extreme sports. I was thinking about Vans...maybe the Converse will work as well. I'm gonna try tucking the laces and a bit of duct tape before investing in new shoes.

As for my knee pads, I bought some Fox knee and shin protectors that were supposed to keep the pads from twisting but the straps have loosened up over time and can't be tightened without some sewing.

Anyway, my bruises have all healed from last weekend, I've forgotten the pain and I'm ready for another session! Next low tide at Jekyll is the second week of January...let's hope for some of those sweet easterlies!

If you are carrying the duct tape ( and everyone should ) It seems like the solution to you pad problem as well :puzzled:

I always wear my keens on the beach when the weather is warm. I've had them for about 2-3 years and they still look like new. In the water and out they dry out, support your feet, and wear like nothing else. I've probably scudded miles in mine and the bottoms have hardly worn at all. They protect your toes as well. Mine are the canvas strap models.

I would highly recommend these skateboard pads.
http://the187.com/index.php

Probably the best commercially availible pads. I want to get the Knee Gaskets from 187 this summer.

I've got some older Phat Boys by Rector.

Hey Scott!

Those look pretty good. I've been thinking about scraping these Fox knee/shin pads. They're kinda bulky and I haven't really had any need for the shin pads (now watch...I'll hammer shins. Better go find some wood to knock on).

So...you like the gaskets rather than the Pros? Any particular reason?

Oh yeah...I'm going to score some Keens when I get a chance.
