Rat Fink- now that is funny.

I don't use stakes. I snag the kite on my ATB, kiteboard or fence to land. I don't like to leave my kites spread out on the ground if possible.

Scott ;funny thing is I don't either unless I'm on grass or flying revs..... mostly was a just in case of emergency and to custom match a buggy theme ........

the big plus was if kites weren't a passer by{non-kiter} thing they sure would stop and ask about the kite stakes then the conversation naturally goes into kites just another piece of ammo to promote kiting

One of the smartest off the shelf kite stakes I have seen is a dog spike that Canuck had.

It is helix shaped and screws in to the earth. The connection is on a swivel.

I just throw things together at work or use the big plastic ones from Home Depot. I seem to lose kite stakes like socks in the dryer ?

Now that I'm thinking about it everytime we tried using a stake it just pulled out of the soft sand/dirt we have around here. I might be more inclined to use them if they would stay put.

Those kite stakes are amazingly awesome! Nice job Kyte Slinger. I especially like the wolf with the purple hat. I would like to know how would you go about making one of those. You definitely got me interested. Do you get the heads separately and then just attach the stake, or are they all custom heads? Also, would it be possible to attach a screw in stake instead of the straight one? If they are custom, you should consider making an iced/ frozen skull like the one I attached.

I use a 89 cent weed puller! It is a 14" wooden handled steel shank that has a "split snakes tounge" on the end. Sort of like a screwdriver with 2 heads on the end of it. I spraypaint the handle orange for visibility and I am good to go.

I am like Bladerunner and lose them all the time! I usually buy a dozen in the spring and am out of them in a year. But for $10 who cares right?

I tried the screw in dog ones and found they bend like crazy. Like my dice one with the 10" spiral nail. Very strong and holds well in the fields.

I have found the Super Sized pegs from Home Depot work O.K. on soft sand ? Big and orange so they are easy to see as well.

When not on the beach I like to use some "bean bags" full of sand or lead shot to hold the trialing edge down on my kite.

But those kite stakes are freaken' awesome. Wish I had harder ground so I could justify buyin one!

Thank goodness you finally got a wolf in there, Dave. I was starting to get worried.

Afraid mine are boring. HQ Stakes mostly. The orange knobs stand out in the field unless there's lots of moguls or the grass is unusually tall.

Some titanium pegs for icy fields... dual-lines and smaller foils.

A bolo of lacrosse balls for sail weights because they roll off smoothly. Any normal children mom had came before me :wink2:

9 Pages of stake heads?!?!?! You have been busy.... time to open the online store. :spin:

Sam

KS, those stakes are incredible. I can't tell what they're made out of. Are they carved of wood? Really really impressive.

There not made of wood and i really have thought of selling them...

1st the final cost would run the consumer about 70 and upwards to 100.00 and I don't think many people would be willing to spend that much on a kite stake....

how ever I did engineer a kite stake for soft snow, sand and large show kites like the peter lynns SLKs in a compack package , pretty bomb proof and light weight ......but that is another project that got shoved on the shelf that i haven't gotten around to
