Landboarding behind an ATV

With no good wind I've been going crazy staring at my new board. I finally lost it and talked my wife into pulling me behind the ATV. I attached a wakeboard tow rope and handle to the ATV and off we went! Not bad...it's a different kind of pull, closer to wakeboarding but I got a good feel for the board. In fact, I managed a couple of hop 180's.

I was trying to come up with a better tow point. Has anybody gone down this particular crazy path already?

I'm liking this...I'd like to mount the rope about a foot or two higher but that's gonna take some hardware. I'm also a little concerned about tipping the ATV if I load up on one side or the other. As it is I've kept the rope fairly short (about 20 ft.) Pretty fun!

don't do the high pole!

the it will pull over the atv

at speed and hard edge snatch will be a rough tumble for the driver

quite dangerous

roll bar/ jeep much better

I agree Phree. Not worth the risk or the effort. Still, with the low tow point and short rope, it seems pretty stable and I'll get my board fix/workout.

I've tried hooking my dogs sled-style and have had some success but its usually a melee. The dogs go berzerk and it becomes a completely different kind of activity.

The bottom line is a I need more board time and the wind here is erratic at best. I'm gonna go find a good hill!

Had another ATV landboarding session tonight. The pasture where I'm riding has some contour and I found that if I rode on the down hill side of the ATV it helped simulate the angle of the pull from the kite. We also ramped up the speed to about 12-15 miles per hour which livened things up a bit. Still haven't experienced the dreaded speed wobbles with the new skate trucks...I will probably have to be going a bit faster. It's not kiting but at least I'm getting my board on!

more like 30- 35 mph and we would" cut it up " like go carts on grass

most speed wobbles i've experienced are from lack of commitment to balance through the board or interrupted like after a hop /surface change

oh yeah give it some toeside time slowly....with the turn

about 30 years ago, I had my cousin drive her gokart with a skirope attached and I rode my skateboard behind it. Had fun for about a half hour before I broke my wrist catching myself in a fall. A landboard in a field would be much more stable.

It's pretty amazing how stable this thing is...I went right over a couple of anthills and expected the front wheels to dig in but they plowed right through. The ATV is really hauling a$$ at 35 mph. I was doing some turns behind the thing at 12-15 which probably had my speed around 20 or so. I don't know if I'd like to go a whole lot faster behind the ATV. Toeside is not a problem...I've been practicing riding goofy. That's a real workout! It's cool using the hills!
