Trip to California February 16-23
Hey!
I'm off to California next week. We'll be in the Truckee area for several days and then in the bay area for the second half of the week. Definitely
bringing the kites and boards. Depending on the snow and wind, we'll be at Van Norden, Martis Meadows or Mt. Rose. Then it's off to Ocean Beach.
U2u for my cell and my email is dogworks@aol.com.
Hope to meet some of you guys!

C'mon you guys! No one in Cali is up for snowkiting or Ocean Beach next week? I can't believe it! I'm gonna have to bring a dose of Southern
Hospitality to the Left Coast! Seriously, I'm a native to CA...you guys probably didn't know that...thought I was a foreigner or something! Let's
hear it! Surely, one of you guys wants to try out the Super Blade Powerzone John modded for me. It's snowing in the Sierras too! Anyway, where are
you guys?:puzzled:

Sorry about the lag on responding - I haven't been up to much kiting since last Sunday (crappy day at Ocean Beach - as well as nursing a torn Achilles
from 3 weeks ago) - There should be a good dumping of new snow over the weekend - I may go up to Blue Canyon for some kite skiing sometime next week
- not the greatest spot but it's close and I've only been out kite skiing once with a fixed bridle last year - not a good experience - should be
different with the arcs. Not too familiar with the spots you mentioned except for Van Norden - I scouted it once after checking it out on google
earth - looks great but I believe it is owned by Royal Gorge resort which prohibits kites - solely a recreation field for cross country skiing and
snow shoe hiking - if you have better info on this place let me know - I'd love to go out there.
Tides at ocean beach 16th - 10:30 am 17th 11:40 am 18th 12:50pm:bouncing: 19th 2:00pm:wee: The rest of the days will be good tides- as
for wind try these sites for current forecasts.

The best time for Ocean Beach is during the week - weekends, even if the day is cold and windy, can be somewhat crowded. And welcome back - hope to
hear from you soon.

Hey Doug!
Thanks for the reply. My brother and I have kited at Van Norden a couple of times. If the wind is right, it could be a really nice spot. Nobody has
ever harassed us. My bro lives right up the road from Royal Gorge. He has been going to Serene Lake which is right next to his house so we may try
that also.
We'll probably stay up in Tahoe until Friday morning and then down to the bay area. Friday might be the day at OB. Let's hope for good wind! Maybe
well see you out there. We hope to see some you other lurkers too! ;-)
Thanks again for writing.

Good to hear about Van Norden - Friday should be just perfect for tides - as long as there's some wind without it pouring rain there will be somebody
down at OB - hopefully me.

Man...looks like we planned this trip just right! I dunno about snowkiting with all the snow but we should be able to lay down some fresh tracks in
the Sierras over the next couple of days!
Flying into Reno tomorrow could be interesting in this weather. Hope Delta's de-icers are working properly.
The Venom II 13 mtr I picked up from Steff is waiting in Tahoe. I can't wait to give that thing a spin.
Flexiblade...looks like Friday is going to be the day at OB. We'll try to get there before low tide. Hope the rain blows through before Friday!

There shouldn't be any rain but it looks as there won't be any wind either - if things don't change soon I'm probably not going to be able to make it
- 270 miles roundtrip is a long way to drive to do nothing. Sorry - I hope you had a good time skiing - has been a bit sketchy with the wind up the
hill for the last 4 days - gusting to 45mph at times. Take care - maybe next time - are you going to NABX? If so I'll see you there.

We were supposed to leave on Monday but my bro called Sunday night and told me his whole brood is sick so I quickly rescheduled for this Thursday.
Family trips are soooo flaky but this opens a new window of opportunity. Friday offers nothing but Saturday its gonna crank. If there's no rain,
it'll be a go.
BTW The snow in the Sierras is epic. I can't wait to get up there at the beginning of next week.
Not going to NABX this year. Too much other stuff going on...I'm going to try to go to JIBE though. Much easier to coordinate from the east coast.

That's my mom's birthday too. That's why we're going out there really. It's her 70th! Well, if the wind blows, we may have to break away on Sunday
afternoon too.
