Man I am pissed, no bego

I got my "bego" today in the mail. Ebay description described it as a bego and the picture shows a bego, but it is a neptune (mac's water kite). I was really looking forward to owning the legendary mac bego but I will have to return this.
What really has me pissed off is that the lines that the guy included with the kite had been broken and TIED back together with knots. the aution said the kite came with 30m lines and handles. No honest kiter would sell you broken lines. the line material is strange too, the power lines look like thick cord and the brake lines look like 50lb test cord, definitely not kiteworthy material.
The handles are pretty #@%$#!ty too, just schedule 40 pvc with a very slight bend in them.

Oh, well I guess I am still in the market for a 6-9 fixed bridle.

Man that sucks! Is the seller giving you any problems with returning? Sounds like they might not have even really know what they were selling

Will do Dagon,

If you paid via PayPal, they typically will side with the buyer -- good luck with the refund!

I have not heard back from the seller, I will let you all know what happens. It does sound like he did not know what he was selling but in the auction he talks about how he flew it with a bar, and had handwritten instructions on how to use a homemade crossover kit for a 2 line bar, so who knows. I like to think the guy wasnt being malicious.

Why would you not just keep the neptune?

Bego performance with closed cell type technology and likely better gust handling.

I can't remember who it was (someon in the UK) who used to post that they preferred the neptunes to the standard begos as they had all the performance coupled with the option to take it on the water and less affected by gusts.

As far as the lines, they sound like standard Mac lines - atleast the ones I got. All white lines. the powers are bulky and stiched but not sleeved and the brakes are super light and tied, not stiched. They seemed just OK but I've never flown with them.

As far as tied together though???? that's crazy.

For the handles, they also sound like standard Mac handles. Mine were standard 3/4" PVC with cuts that were kind of sharp and a slight bend and super long leaders with probably 8 adjustment knots. They were very light but I actually liked them and put them on one of my jojos for a winter and flew hooked in many a time with those handles with no problem at all (though I did put end caps on mine so as not to cut the kite on the rough edges of the handles).

I thought about keeping it but I am used to open cells. I honestly dont know if the closed cells would be better, it might not luff as much at the edge of the window.
Also If I kept it I would want to be compensated for the fact I have to buy new lines. Mostly I am irritated about the whole thing and just want to start over.

Since you want to use it as a low wind kite I might guess the closed cells would be a pain to fill ?

There are any number of cheap rechargable appliances to inflate one of these. I found with my Rage the real pain was packing it up.
The Mac Neptune was quite talked about when I was first getting into kiting. I really wanted one. I thought they were a real pretty kite. What colour is yours?
If you decide to sell it to recoup your loss, let me know depending on what you paid for it I could be interested?
Oh god, I am out of control. Forget what I said. I have to call my sponsor.:o
