Fixed Bridle Bar Setup
Hey guys,
I was just wondering if anyone uses, or has used a bar setup on a fixed bridle kite, and how you would set the lines up to do so. Since I am using a
depower bar, would I set the main lines to the center strop, or to the bar?

its opposite of a de-power. You connect the main flying lines to the outside of the bar and the brakes (trailing edge) to the center. Best to use a
x-over bar. You may get your depower bar to work if you tweak everything just right. But if you pull in the bar it will stall the kite. Not the best
idea to use that bar, but you could probably "technically" get it to work.

If the kite doesn't need any brake input to fly you could probably rig the brakes through the center as kite killers, essentially a busch league
x-over bar.
I have a 2 line bar from a HQ rush that you could try if you just want to try a bar on your fixed bridles, just attach the brakes to a leash in case
you let go.
BTW your avatar is awesome.

Search cross over bar for all sort of info on how to set one up.
Unfortunately it's not just a matter of swapping the lines and using a depower bar. Even without a cross over you are best to run you brakes through a
pulley .

Alright guys, thanks for the advice. bigben, I also have a 2 line bar that I could use, and thanks for noticing the new avatar! I was just
considering bar options with brakes set up in case the power gets to be too much. I plan on trying something on my Stylus P.4 until my handles come
in. That also brings me to my next problem. IDK what the protocol is with mentioning links or specific shops on here, so hopefully I'm not breaking
any rules. I had put an order in for new handles and a line set from PowerKiteShop in the UK at the end of December. I received an order
confirmation via email, but I guess the order was never processed. My cc was never charged and here I am without new handles and lines. I have just about given up on writing them weekly emails, and I can't make
international calls on my cell. Funny thing is I ordered my seat harness from them 2 weeks prior to that order, and got it in about a week. Anyone
else have any problems with this site?

If you want to go 2 line you can either just leave the brakes hanging or loosely tie them to the front.
It will fly O.K. but you won't have any brake control + won't have much luck with relaunching.

the stylus p4 comes set up for dual line, so you can just add the 2 line bar. Like BR said you will not be able to reverse re-launch

Yeah it does, but I have found that it's much more controllable in 4 line mode. Especially if you feel the need to let go of the bar / handles. I
need some sort of braking on it because it is very strong a lot of the time. I'll let you guys know what I end up doing.

I highly recommend going with your first idea and getting some handles and kite killers.

Yeah, that was my original plan. I really don't know what the deal is with PowerKiteShop, and I don't want to order different things from anyone else
if there is still a processing order. Its been a month and a half though. Any suggestions?

Cross over bars are great for bigger foils. You can also use, like someone already said... the brake lines as a "kite killer" tied together to a
leash on the harness. That works for a lot of lower to mid aspect ratio kites.
What do you do with your foils?
Charger 8, 12, 19
Scorpion 10, 16
And other foils...
Flexifoil Bug, CrazyFly board, MBS atb

So just out of curiosity, what would happen if you set up a fixed bridle like a depower kite?

Without a pulley allowing your brakes to slide back and forth the brakes get all messed up and work against you as you turn. The option is to leave
the brakes so loose they have no effect. Effectively flying 2 line but with the abilaty to reverse launch. Usually ending with certian death . :wink2:
